Hi, thanks a lot for the analysis! Yeah, I think this track is intentionally written with less focus on the melody and more on the specific traditional Japanese aspects like the drums. Most Touhou fans are very, very familiar with this melody and chord progression already, so this mix is focused on the new instruments—taiko drums, flute, etc. As someone who's listened to the original track so many times, I probably have a very different experience listening to this version than you do. Also, I feel like sometimes when someone else doesn't like what I like, it can kind of make me like it even more? A lot of the issues you talked about aren't as bad for me, since I already know the melody/chord progression and can fill in what's missing myself. So hearing what you did and didn't like, I feel like I can identify the parts I like better than I could before. Anyways, thanks for talking about it!
