They both played the entire time. It's more about who has melody and who is playing a supporting role. There was the section where the bass took the melody for a bit. It's a composite sound so its, imo, better to just take the whole thing as a blanket piano sound vs the two people if that makes sense. The musical demand is cool because it requires massive teamwork

Yes, the ending is close.

Unknowable

Little explanation on the whole "I'm not gonna play Ravel" thing (taken from a reddit comment explaining this better than I could): So there's a light novel called "Ichigo Doumei" by Mita Masahiro where the protagonist is a boy who plays Pavane for A Dead Princess by the composer, Maurice Ravel, on the piano for a girl who is dying in the hospital. So, basically that quote indicates Kousei's denial on Kaori's condition. Kaori's quote "Want to commit a double suicide with me?" on eps 16(?) is also a reference to that light novel since Kousei borrowed that book from the school library for Kaori the other day.

to answer your question this is a one season anime

One thing I think is really interesting is how they actually color in Kaori. At the beginning of the season she was literally so vibrant and saturated, but by the time you reach this episode she's almost just shades of gray

2023-10-24 13:17:17 So I rewatched this Episode and I noticed something Cool and interesting Arima says “ I can’t Concentrate” “I can Still hear the sound of the piano” Which makes me Think he plays better when he doesn’t hear the notes he mastered it

2023-10-24 13:17:17 I love how even if you don't come from a musical background, just looking at the performance from a character standpoint is so well developed and deep. From Kousei pushing her to perform at her best, the Contrast between her actually knowing Kousei and her brother just "Fantasizing" about how cool and unfazed by everything Kousei is, the performance re-igniting the fire in the brother, and even though the brother didn't comment on his sister's talents she still accomplished what she wanted in the end, she brought back the return of "Her Hero" rather than having to see him moping around. Now the next issue is, how will Kaori even begin to try performing at another competition in the condition she's in? Kousei believes in her and I love that he's not giving up on that dream either.
