This part of the anime kind of reminds me of The Man in the High Castle where it went from a series about rebellion to something a "little" different.

Ah yes the immortal witch sub story. They kinda do just open the curtains in regards to how and why for Geass powers at this point. But kinda makes sense since Lelouch did just kinda Genocide the whole Geass underground city/order. Instead of nickel and dimming the lore around it they just start handing out 50s and go "try to make cents (sense) outa this"
