I was also disappointed we didn't get to see the march, although it makes more sense after reading Ice's comment. I also felt Motomu's behavior up until now didn't really make sense after the reveal of the reason. If he was just looking to go to a school where he wasn't accused of benefiting from favoritism, then he already achieved that by going to a different school. But maybe he was afraid people would think his grandfather pulled strings even if he was succeeding in a different school. I guess that makes sense given how respected his grandfather is. Being able to watch your reactions to this show is why I signed up for your Patreon. I really like the show and your reactions provide great insight given your experience as a teacher. Thanks for this and all the other great content!

Regarding your 3rd paragraph, in the novel, Kumiko has that exact thought when she sees Gen'ichiro talking to Taki before the parade. She dismisses it pretty quickly (she doesn't have a reason to doubt Taki's integrity at this point, and she already knows Motomu's good enough regardless), but I do think that was what the author was implying with regard to his guardedness
