I think it was mentioned in the 2nd or 3rd episode, but C.C. has some regenerative powers. If you recall, she took a bullet to the forehead and showed up a few days later. I believe Mao shot her several times because he knew she would recover. Also why he busted out the chainsaw. Dude wanted to play Humpty Dumpty.
