A few years ago, the composers on the Cleopatra in Space TV series surprised me with this little play on ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas. Being Christmas Eve, I thought I'd share it with y'all tonight. So without further ado...

‘Twas the Night Before Cleo

‘Twas the night before Christmas, a cold and clear sky
Where a dazzling red comet is seen shooting by
Zoom in a bit closer, and we hear a WOOO!
It’s Cleo, Akila - and Khensu’s there too!

Our heroes rugged up, aboard in a sleigh
Brian’s there in the back, complaining away
“I can’t hold on forever, what’s in this sack?”
Khensu:“It’s your objective, we’re taking it back.”

An audible GASP as they plummet to Mayet
Cleo shrieks in delight, as she is the pilot
They’re going too fast, this plan never works
And what’s keeping them up…. is eight modified XERX?!

More rapid than rockets, the unlikely bunch came,
Cleo whistled and shouted, and called them by name:
“Now Banger! Now Basher! Now Smasher and Wrecky!
On Creeper! On Comet! On Kosey and… Becky?
Go faster to PYRAMID; they’re closing the gates!
Christmas is here and we’re running late!”

They land with a thud, a big dent on the roof
And grabbing the sack, down the portal they flew
A moment of darkness, blink open their eyes
The hall is alive, what a lovely surprise!

A band from above plays an upbeat pop track
Students dancing like crazy, there’s no holding back!
There’s great food! And a fire! And as if it’s on cue…
Khepra narrows her eyes, “We’ve been waiting for you.”

It starts to get quiet as they walk to the front
The crowd looks to Cleo, expecting a stunt
Her hands start to shake as she opens the sack
Then BOOM, an explosion! She slams on her back!

Akila sprints to her side, “Everyone look up there!”
As one million lights erupt in the air
The colors – they twinkle! The sight, oh how merry!
A starfield of red and green alien fairies!

The crowd roars in excitement, without further ado
Khensu whispers, “Merry Christmas Cleopatra, we’re thankful for you.”
