Hey everyone,

Spoiler alert! The video accompanying this Patreon BTS video isn't live on the main channel yet. It will be over the weekend. We have some content coming up where we've tested a series of popular cables that had concerning specifications and characteristics. We put our PSU testing equipment to use to try and root-out some specific failures. Although we have no comment or position on mining, we know that a lot of people are doing it right now -- and our concern is that some people may be putting themselves and others at risk by using cheap riser cables. We wanted to test some of those to try and determine where problems might arise.

The video is coming to the main channel soon, but in this one, you get to see Patrick Stone, our test engineer for this project, explain how he did the testing and how he used some really cool testing equipment.

It's really satisfying to finally be at a point where we have a little more manpower and more ability to make use of all the cool stuff we have. This was certainly an example of that -- we've had the equipment for years, but with Stone on board, we can finally start using it somewhat regularly.

Thanks again for the support, everyone! Check back on the main channel sometime over the weekend for the video!

How We Did the PCIe Power Cable Fire Testing

In this Patreon Behind the Scenes video (will later be released to the public, at some point), we show the testing process used in our power supply and power cable benchmarking. This specific video was made to illustrate the basics of how our testing equipment was used for the PCIe riser cable analysis. Just curious when do you receive your subscription gift after you subscribe I believe I was getting a bar mat for the $20 a month subscription which I have now paid twice

Hi Billy. We send the Patreon awards once per month. Looks like you signed up on March 16, which was right after we sent the March round. We are working on the April round right now, which will include yours.

Ok thank you was just curious

This is awesome! I really feel like the "jonnyguru.com" torch has been passed on, especially since the last torchbearer let the site fizzle out without a word...

Thanks, Jon! I don't think we've earned that yet, but we'd like to work towards earning it. Getting Stone on-board full-time this year was a major step in the right direction. He's been ramping-up on everything. We have one piece done and going up shortly exploring the PCIe riser fire question and we have another written on 12-pin testing, just needs to go through QC/peer review (internal) and filming. Both used this stuff!

Lead Firestarter, why do I have that mortal kombat song in my head now, lol. you have been chosen, to defend the realm of DISN, in a tournament called Server Kombat, it has begone. Scooter, mainframe vs JP5 boiler-plates, fire! lol.

That VariAC seems indispensable for controlled PSU testing and the SM-220 puts Kill A Watts to shame; awesome stuff. And is that a DS1054Z? Great scope, especially after the license "upgrade."

stoked on cable current testing, it's something I haven't seen elsewhere in the PC hardware space, but because it's safety-critical, it's good that someone is testing it

Behind the scenes stuff is neat, always nice to get a glimpse of how you guys are testing and the hardware used to perform those tests. Also nice that you were able to get Stone on fulltime, and the channel continues to grow. The hardware space needs unbiased independent review, and the Gamers Nexus team delivers on that. Thanks

This was a great video. I love how you guys don’t just open the box benchmark it and say it’s great you guys really get into it. GN isn’t like 99.9% of YouTube and I thank you for it
