This is a gold-farming I use that is simple in execution, that despite the profusion of gold-farming channels and websites, has never to my knowledge been explicitly mentioned as a gold-farming method.

Despite its simplicity this method is very powerful and is difficult to imagine Blizzard preventing it or even how they would do that. In some cases it has increased my gold farming profits by over 50%. It can be used by all classes and all gathering professions.

I assume in this post you have a basic level of knowledge of how to farm herbs, mining nodes, etc etc, if not I would stronly suggest you look at a beginners guide on one of the many aforementioned youtube channels that deal with this type of information.

The basis of the technique epends on the following facts: when gathering profession materials from nodes the profitability of each part of your profession-gathering "circuit" will vary greatly in profitability.  Some areas will be rich in nodes whether in other parts of your circuit nodes will be few and far between.

Of course most farmers do the whole circuit despite the low profitability of much of it, due to the complex way nodes respawn. An excellent explanation of how this works is given in WTBgold's excellent ghost-iron farming video here:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VwjIDVacJbY , the relevant part is at 4:08. Note wtbgold gives an optimized farming route in a tight loop then explains why you shouldn't use it-using the method I'll explain we can and we won't have the problems WTBgold mentions.

Now, by the use of multiple characters, especially class trial characters, we can get around this problem and focus only on node-rich farming.

The way to do this is to first load up two wow clients, log-in on one and leave the other one set-up on the loading screen.  You'll need multiple  characters in node-rich farming zones. Farm as few as four or five nodes in very close proximity, then simply close that client using alt+f4. DO NOT log-out, manually close the client. Manually terminating the client saves you 20 seconds, which is important. Log-in on the secondary client immediately and onto a secondary character.  Farm all the nodes in close proximity to that character.

Repeat the entire process with all the characters you have set-up in close proximity to nodes. Note this does not have to be specific to one profession-you could alternate mininng with herbalism or whatever.  Note also that ideally you want to have as many characters as you need to cycle through before all the nodes respawn in the area where you used your first toon-so overall, you are going to need quite a lot of toons which may mean using some class trial characters.

If you are class-trial averse or want to avoid anything that could possibly be conceived as an exploit by Blizzard (unlikely as that is in this case) you may want to fill in a few minutes with a toon in a location where you can farm mobs for a few minutes, or something like smelting where the profitability of the method doesn't recede sharply after a few minutes.

The formula for when to use "localization" versus traditional farming requires you to measure the average profit from a traditional farming circuit, expressed in terms of gold per unit of time, against the profit from farming the node-rich areas across multiple toons in the same unit of time inclusive of logging-in time. If localization is more profitable, do it. Generally speaking, it is.

EDIT: As I was composing this I found a video by NinjaKuma where he basically outlines this method but doesn't connect it to the class trial characters or multiple alts:

 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9IRnuaZTnZg

(11: 53 is the relevant part). This is actually a really good illustration of the basic method but Kuma simply recommends doing something else when you log-out, he doesn't mention or doesn't know of the possibility of continuous farming with multiple toons.

The location Kuma mentions is 66.1, 47.9 The Ruined Sanctum (Aszuna), though I've also used 57.0, 61.3 Temple of a Thousand Lights for aethril farming.

One of the most straightforward ways to use this technique is to farm the same location on different realms. This is optimal if you are going to buy wow tokens or other cross-realm items such as pets. If you want to farm the same realm you must farm different node-rich regions and/or use different professions/techniques.

This is a very rough draft of a concept I will be refining repeatedly. The number of permutations of specific methods is almost limitless so it will take me some time to work out the best combinations of methods. In addition to the professions and each individual spot, you have to consider things like what class your character should be. For example demon hunters are very fast, rogues are excellent for cc-ing mobs near nodes and operating in stealth.
