The Fastest Re-Spawning Mob In Azeroth-Interesting Gold/XP Farm (Patreon)
Content
There is a quest mob called "Forsaken Courier" in the Arathi Highlands old phased version, at co-ordinates 53 65* , on the western side of the path leading out of Go'shek farm.
(EDIT: the mob is Horde-aligned and can only be targeted by alliance players. See suggestions for Horde players below.)
This mob patrols up and down the path. If you can't see where the mob is use the following technique:
1. Type /tar for.
2 Right-click on the "Forsaken Fourier" bar.
3. Select Target Marker Icon-Skull.
The skull should highlight the courier's current position.
Kill the courier and then head to 53 65, kill the courier repeatedly until it re-spawns there.
Once pushed back to its original spawn location the courier will re-spawn very fast. This appears to be the fastest spawning mob in Azeroth clocking in at around a re-spawn every second. This is an oversight from Blizzard-long ago they fixed similar mobs, such as Drungeld Glowergare in the Wetlands, with similar re-spawn times.
The courier drops a decent amount of raw gold, silk and wool cloth which alone make up about 5k gold per hour. The real point of this farm however is that you can get rare legacy items dropping that can be worth thousands of gold. The drop rate on these items is very low-however you can kill the courier so fast you get into large numbers very quickly.
As an example when I discovered this farm in only minutes the following items had dropped:
https://www.wowhead.com/item=7110/silver-thread-armor
https://classic.wowhead.com/item=6391/pattern-stylish-green-shirt
https://www.wowhead.com/item=4694/burnished-pauldrons
These items sell for around 30,000 gold median price on EU realms. Note that this is substantially less than average price-in my experience median price is usually quite accurate as a true reflection of value, at least relative to other metrics. These items do not sell fast generally: the idea with legacy items is that you post them repeatedly with your current content materials and get a nice windfall every now and again.
Note that you are not looking specifically for the items above, they are just examples, you are looking for any rare drop with value. I would use the add-on loot appraiser for this as you will need to know the approximate value of any items which drop.
I am not generally a fan of transmog farms but this is like transmog on crack: you can monopolize the supply on these items since no one but you can farm them that fast.
The mob can also be used to level up as it awards regular xp.
Automating this farm would be very easy: you could use a mouse recorder that can be downloaded for free off the internet: no special software is needed.
All classes can farm this mob effectively, however I used a fire mage with talented flame strike. Talented flame strike ticks for 8 seconds-each tick instantly kills the courier - this is valuable as it allows the mage to perform other actions in-between casts such as tailoring cloth into bolts which have additional monetary value.
For newer patreons: we have lots of gold farms like this in the patreon in other parts of warcraft's universe, many of which were never fixed. I am trying to put those which were not fixed all together in an accessible format as I write this: in the meantime looking through the archives can be rewarding for the patient.
*I use this macro to show co-ordinates
/run local p,f="player",CreateFrame("Button",nil,UIParent,"OptionsButtonTemplate")f:SetPoint("TOP",0,0)f:SetScript("OnUpdate",function(s,e)x,y=C_Map.GetPlayerMapPosition(C_Map.GetBestMapForUnit(p),p):GetXY()f:SetText(format("(%.1f,%.1f)",x*100,y*100))end)
EDIT: The mob is Horde-aligned and can only be killed by alliance players. For players without alliance toons you can use a class trial (be aware of the 3 hour time limit here) or run an alliance character up to level 35 with party sync switched off. The latter will take around 2-3 hours with an allied race.
