The following technique allows you to one-shot mobs at a much higher level using a consumable item. The benefit of this technique ranges wildly depending on exactly what you do with it from a mild increase in experience gain to extremely game-breaking.

In Arathi Highlands there are a number of stone of circles populated by elementals-Burning Exiles, Thundering Exiles and Cresting Exiles. Each has a decent chance to drop a "charm" designated by the elemental form-burning, thundering and cresting. These can be used to one-shot mobs of another elemental form.

Although the flavor text on the item uses the word "banish" this is nothing to do with warlock-style banishing as you might expect-it just kills the elemental instantly.

If you use the charm without attacking the mob you gain no xp. However, if you do even 1 damage to the elemental and then use the charm you gain full xp for the kill.

The charms can be used at level 25. The elemental mobs are all 38-39. This means that you can gain a lot of experience with a number of charms very fast-the only difficulty is landing any kind of hit on the mobs in the first place (if you have difficulty with this my recent post about the fishing pole may be interesting).

There are a number of ways to execute the charm exploit:

1. Buy all charms on the ah and run around Arathi using them.

2. Simply farm the elementals and build an inventory of charms, then use them, effectively adding a bonus to your grinding xp.

3. Farm charms using a higher-level character and send them to a lower-level character for what is effectively a fantastic boost.

I would strongly recommend farming the charms during off-peak hours if possible as this is a popular zone. Assuming you do not get too much competition this is the fastest possible method of leveling-it is possible to grind through levels in under half an hour even in the 30's-twice the speed of the best speed-runners.

Update September 29: You are now awarded experience only on the basis of the damage you do to the mob before using the charm. This exploit can still be useful for gold farming as you can still loot.
