The Igneous Flameling pet is currently selling for an average price of 100K across all realms. This is a pet which can be purchased only during the Midsummer Fire Festival, for 350 burning blossoms. Blossoms are the currency of the festival for honoring the fires, scattered around the game world, of your own faction and also for desecrating the fires of the opposite faction. You are awarded 10 blossoms for desecrating a fire, 5 for honoring one. Each fire can only be done once per time.

Once all the fires have been doused or honored the character can only receive blossoms from daily quests.

The exploit involved here is very simple but very effective. Roll a class trial mage, which allows you to do all the bonfires repeatedly. Because of their teleports, mages can navigate Azeroth much faster than any other class and remove an enormous amount of flying time.

The way I do this is to send 5K to the class trial. This is mainly to purchase master riding which is 4750 gold. You must also purchase teleport spells from a portal trainer (there is one near where the stormwind orgrimmar portal takes you from the Broken Shore ship where you spawn for the tutorial).

You don't have to purchase master riding and can save yourself the 4750 gold, but it will take longer. With the 100k pet I am going to sell at the end of this I know this investment is worth it: more risk-averse players may wish to pass on this.

There's a trick here which needs explanation for non-mages. You need to learn the Tol Barad portal spell, even though there are no bonfires in Tol Barad. The reason is that when you go to Tol Barad you are placed right next to a portal which itself takes you to the series of cataclysm era portals in Stormwind.

So for example if you want to go to Mount Hyjal it is much faster to port to Tol Barad-take the portal to Stormwind-take the portal to Hyjal than it is to go to Stormwind and then Hyjal because you have to exit the mage tower and fly over most of Stormwind to do so.

Bear in mind also that in many cases using the Dalaran portal network will get you to some locations faster than any other method. For example there's no easy way to get to the north of Eastern Kingdoms other than by using the Dalaran portal to Ancient Dalaran in Silverpine Forest.

Also bear in mind as you travel that there are sometimes breadcrumb quests which open up temporary portals between areas that are very far apart. For example "Nethergarde Needs You" offers a portal fron the Cenarion Hold in Silithus to Blasted Lands. "The Battle For Andohral" in Booty Bay offers a portal to the Western Plaguelands.

For a basic primer to the festival with bonfire locations I use Icy Veins guide here: https://www.icy-veins.com/wow/midsummer-fire-festival-guide

When you purchase the flameling pet remember that pets can be caged and posted cross-realm. The value of the pet is much higher on many realms, so if you are just trying to pay for a token with it, it makes sense to create a level 1 character on a realm with low supply just to offload the pet.

Additionally, for players with no immediate need for gold, holding onto holiday pets and selling them off-season is about the easiest possible way to make gold from investment in wow, since supply inevitably diminishes as we get further away in time from the festival.

EDIT: Charlie Wilkerson added this comment below, which has so much work and ingenuity in it I thought it was only right to add it to the main body of this article:  (Charlie writes)

My route was as follows (this is Horde, thats important as I described due to the route taking advantage of desecrations): Log in, grab your gold for teleports, use the Uldum portal. Kalimdor: Uldum -> Un'goro -> Silithus -> Feralas (desecrate only) -> Teleport to Pandaria (55 total) Pandaria(1): Kun-lai Summit -> Teleport to Pandaria (70 total) Pandaria(2): Vale of Eternal Blossoms -> Valley of the Four Winds -> Karasang Wilds -> Teleport to Northrend (115 total) Northrend: Storm Peaks -> Crystalsong Forest -> Dragonblight (desecrate only) -> Teleport to Outland (155 total) Outland: Terokkar Forest -> Shadowmoon Valley -> Teleport to Stonard (185 total) Eastern Kingdoms(1): Swamp of Sorrows -> Teleport to Stonard (200 total) Eastern Kingdoms(2): Blasted Lands -> Duskwood -> Elwynn Forest -> Stormwind -> Die in Stormwind and res at spirit healer (260 total) Eastern Kingdoms(3): Redridge Mountains -> Burning Steppes -> Badlands -> Loch Modan -> Teleport to Orgrimmar (310 total) Orgrimmar: Use portals to Deepholm and Hyjal, using the Orgrimmar portal to return each time. (340 total)  That leaves you with 10 remaining, so you can desecrate a fire of your choice. I'm not sure which was the best, so I grab the one in Hellfire Peninsula. The Feralas desecrate is also a bit iffy, but I couldn't really find a better one. You could port to Undercity and grab Brill and The Bulwark, then take Chillwind Camp as your final 10 instead of Hellfire. In retrospect this is probably better.  This run initially took me 35 minutes, but you can save a lot of time with optimal flying (more direct flying is better than having to curve a bit or fly straight up to get over everything). A side note is I didn't use 310% flight speed either, so you could do it slightly faster if you opt for this.
