Today there was an Alliance Frost Mage taking no significant damage in Orgrimmar from guards and other players.

I studied his buffs to try and work out what he was doing. It seemed that he was benefitting from the legendary item "Belov'ir's Final Stand".

The relevant ability on the Legendary:
Blink, you gain an absorb shield equal to 20% of your maximum health for 15 sec.

This absorb seems to take damage before ice barrier.

Further study revealed that this absorbency can be magnified by judicous talent selection and artifact traits. While some of these may have been utilized passively by the mage I was looking at, there was no obvious indication he was doing anything more than spamming blink and ice barrier while hurling the occassional frostbolt.

Versatility does affect the legendary absorb percentage. In addition it stacks with the artifact trait "Shield Of Alodi".  Prydaz, Xavaric's Magnum Opus,  has a similar effect, however it was not in evidence here.

This seems to explain recent talk of invincible players in capital cities. It seems that no exploit as such is being used - it is just that the legendary effects used intelligently have broken world pvp, unlike the 100% bona fide exploit in instanced pvp at the moment.

(I will occassionally make posts like this about effects which are arguably not exploits at all but have gamebreaking effects. I am aware that many would consider this a creative use of game mechanics-either way, people are generally interested in these dramatic demonstrations of invincibility).
