The call ended as soon as the little girl said she was scared.

“Gaia? Gaia?” Eva called out. She started to tremble and panic when another call came.

She quickly answered, and the words she heard seemed to shatter her world. Her phone slipped from Eva's grasp, but he caught it deftly and switched it to speaker mode.

“I… we believe she’s kidnapped while still sleeping in her room, ma’am… and maybe, she’d been gone since… since an hour ago.” The female continued to report.

Eva's response was filled with desperate hope. "Maybe she's just hiding somewhere, Matty," she suggested, her voice cracking under the weight of her fear.

“We thought of that too madam, but, but we have searched the mansion upside down already and we couldn’t find her anywhere. The mansion is still in chaos, looking for her…”

Eva vehemently shook her head, unable to accept the situation.

He watched the terror in Eva's eyes, saw her fingers clumsily attempting to redial the number—either Gaia's or the kidnapper's. And just like that, his resolve to leave crumbled. Despite his intentions to depart, the sight of her overwhelming distress and the thought of the missing child anchored him to the spot. Fuck it… He should be leaving now, but there’s no way he could go when she’s like this! And that child… damn it!

"I can’t… can’t reach the number…" Her voice was strangled as she looked up at him. He had never seen her with such an expression, one of extreme fear, surpassing even the terror of death. "G-gage… Gaia is… she is…" she stammered, her lips quivering, tears beginning to form.

Almost instinctively, he cupped her face with his hands and leaned in, ensuring she was looking directly at him. "Look at me, Eva," he said gently. "Breathe… Don't worry, we'll definitely find her."

He couldn't resist offering her comfort, holding her close, and whispering reassurances. "I promise I’ll find her," he murmured. His voice seemed to work like magic, gradually easing her violent trembling as she started taking deep, steadying breaths.

"Good girl," he whispered, kissing her forehead before pulling back slightly to meet her gaze. "Now go and get dressed first."

She nodded, her movements swift as she quickly got dressed.

Once ready, they hurried out of the apartment, with him driving swiftly while she made a series of urgent phone calls.

The moment they reached the mansion, their car skidded to a dramatic stop, tires screeching against the gravel driveway. In a blur of motion, Eva darted from the car, her movements swift and urgent, fueled by a mother's desperation.

He followed at a slower pace, his steps measured and deliberate. Yet, as he neared the entrance, a sudden pause seized him. His eyes dropped, fixating on the ground as if deciphering unseen clues from the earth itself. The world around him fell silent, save for the gentle rustling of leaves in the gentle breeze.

That breeze caressed his skin with an almost ethereal touch. It toyed with strands of his hair, setting them adrift in a dance with the wind. In that moment, something shifted within him. It was as if the wind carried secrets or premonitions, whispering them into his soul. And then his eyes flickered, as if he had discerned a hidden message in the wind's silent language.
