The show gets way better, this isn’t even the good stuff! I mean its good but its gets great/amazing! Im so annoyed that they show the mom didn’t teach them Spanish. My mom could not Fathom people not teaching their kids and tbh neither can I. Mom only ever spoke to my sisters and I in Spanish, speak to your kids in your native language! I never knew it could be because of bullies because who in their right mind would not teach their kids a whole new language because of dumb kids that are only on your life for a short amount of time? It’s such a valuable thing to be able to speak different languages and its something to admire and not to be laughed at, makes no sense to me why someone would make fun of that. Selena absolutely owns the character Alex and is a fantastic actress and she’s hysterical the way she delivers her lines! Her acting is incredible, evident in later season especially when things get emotional.

I kind of sympathize with Alex as I had to take 2 years of Spanish in High School and almost failed both years. But unlike Alex I actually was trying, just never understood it plus my teachers were both kind of shitty. I think if a native Spanish speaker was my teacher it would have gone better. I do remember after this episode aired Alex doing the chocolate slide became a regular clip used in commercials for the show. Just lots of memories watching the episode with you Juli.

I love what you said about your pride for your heritage and teaching your son Spanish and English. I took 6 years of Spanish in school, we were only allowed to speak Spanish in class in my High School. But as my teachers always said is “use it or lose it.” My two little cousins who are around 12 are half American, half Japanese. They were born and raised in Japan but they come to visit us in America. They speak fluent Japanese and English and are learning to speak Spanish, sign language and I think German as well. They mostly speak Japanese and their dad has to nicely remind them that when they’re with us they have to speak English so we can understand them lol I love that more and more people are learning different languages.
