Elijah's ring doesn't really serve a purpose, it's just a family heirloom. He has his abilities (compelling vampires and resurrecting) simply because he's an original, not because of any ring😄

Katherine was able to enter the house without being invited bc all the owners of the house were dead, so she didn't need an invite.

Elijah can compel other vampire because he is an original not because of any ring. The ring he is wearing is simply a daylight ring.

There has only been 2 rings on the show. One that protects vampires from sunlight and one that protects humans from supernatural deaths(the one jeremy has). Elijah wasn't killed after getting a stake in his heart because he's an Original. And Elijah can compell other vampires because he's an Original.

Katherine could enter the house with no invitation because her family was dead so no invitation necessary. Remember in 1x17 when damon goes to rescue Stefan and he kills the owner of the house so he could come inside. So basically if there's no owner there's no need for invitation. Another thing if elena becomes a vampire then klaus would do the same thing he did to katherine, kill all her friends and family so there's no win situation for elena, she's fucked either way. Also fun fact, nina dobrev who plays Katherine and elena is Bulgarian in real life so that's why Katherine can speak Bulgarian.

Ring only protect Vampire from sun and it has nothing to do with compulsion.

the Originals are very special, the ring as nothing to do with their strengh or ability to come back to life ;-) and your are so right, the mythology of this show is incredible!!
