A tradition unlike any other...Jessuary...only on YKS Premium.

Today, writer Dan O'Sullivan joins us to talk about one of my favorite Kaiju movies without a guy in a robot suit named Lightning Ranger or whatever the crap in it. Just in time for the premiere of Godzilla vs. King Kong, we're doing Godzilla (2): King of the Monsters! Are the people in this too much, or not enough? What's the deal with the blue (breath) guy? Where are Godzilla's nuts? Lot to learn on this one, and that's well before we get to maybe the best segment we've ever thought of. Get to the chopper, folks! It's YKS Premium!

Best monster movie there is, barely beating out Kong: Skull Island

Oat Bran

It's back!

Original Ferg

Technically it's just "Kong" since Universal owns the trademark to "King Kong" so fan you are, jf, smh

Pög

Godzilla by Blue Oyster Cult slaps. Dan didn't know that song existed but pretended he did.

Gregory Holmes

I am so ready for Jessuary! Dan missed marshmallow on rocky road but it’s nbd.

It felt sort of self-aggrandizing for Jesse to introduce the concept of a Jesse Movie. Like we get it Jesse likes Jesse Movies...

Dan Z

Dan is so angry. better if he not speak

Sammy Jacobs

another perfect episode

J Knol

Real banger of an ep fellas

bob evans

i stand with DB: vines *are* a member of the tree family

Thanks for taking my question and tackling it with the gravity it, and I, deserve. Though I'm pleased with the answer I feel as if some alarming disinfo was brought up in the broader discussion. JF is canonically 5'9 and *not* 5'11¾.

Mike W

fudgie wudgie

Is this one good? Jesse is my least favourite guest. I like Mike. I don't want to waste my time. (I'm a surgeon and three people will die if I choose to listen to this instead of doing surgery on them)

I thought to be considered a "Jesse Movie" a film had to be devoid of subtext and resist any ambiguous reading, so I was shocked when JF said he discussed the film's metaphor with his daughter. I'm glad he clarified that the metaphor related to the original Japanese Godzilla picture and wasn't present (in a coherent way) in the new release. Derrida said nothing exists outside the text but I think, as JF has tried to demonstrate, he meant that all material is both textual and meta-textual, and to try to distinguish between them is to place a limit on our attempt at understanding - King of the Monsters doesn't need to work in the nuclear metaphor because someone else had done it before them.

"2" Many Dans? Wrong - third dan makes a black belt! (karate)

Oat Bran

Really painful to hear Dan realize he was talking shit on a real Blue Oyster Cult song he did not know about. Great ep
