The improving performance of closed AI models like GPT-4 Turbo and the rapid advancements of open-source models. Specifically, it mentions China's 01.AI's Yi-34B model, which outperforms its peers on several benchmarks, such as MMLU, by scoring 76.3%. This performance surpasses that of other open-source models like Meta Platforms’ LLaMA2-70B and TII’s Falcon-180B.

Open-source models are benefiting from diverse developer groups contributing to them. ARK's research suggests the performance gap between private and open-source models is narrowing, with open-source models close to matching the performance of more costly, private, closed-source models.

Keep a close eye on Grok also.

Keep in mind that by the year 2025, the capabilities of these models are expected to improve by a factor of 1600. The prospects for the future are simultaneously astounding and terrifying.

I would leave it as just terrifying James.

What ARE the prospects for the future? Seriously, how will the world change? Who's got the vision for this?

It may be all about WHICH AI engine you subscribe to in the future. That will be your "camp", it will expose a specific slant of world to you in which you can dwell and excel (or be used?). The choice is yours, but these groups will compete... There may be freedom AI's versus a controlling AI's, and they will fight (like always). The AI's can start their own businesses, build their own factories, form their own cartels, be their own lawyers, hack their opponents' systems, and hopefully somehow the human minds in its "camp" contribute something to it to justify being along for the ride.
