I don't intend the pun, really, but this might be the first film to render me speechless. The last act was so compelling and emotional that there is no doubt this film deserved every award it won.

I'm so glad you watched this, Chris. I haven't seen it in a few years and it was wonderful to see it again especially through your eyes. Good one!

"I wanna watch it again" is the best review anyone can give a movie, I think, and that's exactly what I did the first time I saw it in the theater - I went to the box office and bought a ticket to a later showing that day, went out for dinner, and then saw it a second time. Fun trivia - the scene when Myrtle comes home early and meets the king and queen was a reunion of sorts for actors Jennifer Ehle (Myrtle) and Colin Firth. They played Elizabeth Bennet and Mr. Darcy in the mega-popular 1995 miniseries version of Pride and Prejudice -- the series that made Colin Firth a star (the infamous "wet shirt" scene being a big part of that).

What a wonderful, powerful movie. I’m sorry it took me so long to get to your reaction. I haven’t experienced this movie since the original run, but now with your reaction I’ve watched it anew. First things first. That opening scene with the expert broadcaster softening his voice, measuring the microphone, going through all his rituals and traditions is how you should start every video. 🎙️🤪🎙️ This movie had powerful drama, exquisite acting, and a wonderful soundtrack. You’ve been on a roll with top quality movies and I can’t believe it’s only one day separated from Hidden Figures, another wonderful film. My favorite line (among so many) capturing the essence of what Bertie’s country needed from him, the one thing he didn’t know whether he could deliver: - Elizabeth: “Papa, what is he saying (Hitler)?” - Bertie: “I don’t know, but he seems to be saying it rather well” Your look of absolute fear as the King walked into the building for his speech completely matched Bertie’s. Remember Chris, the technology has advanced but the human condition lives on: you have a voice. A movie I’d love for you to consider: Remains of the Day. Another movie about English affairs, the clouds of war in the background, incredible acting, wonderful directing and set designs. Anthony Hopkins, Emma Thompson, Christopher Reeve. It’s a very different vibe than The King’s Speech but quite excellent.
