This was a tragedy. But what a unique episode structure. Even though the Doctor took a back seat in the story this week the characters were instantly compelling and I ended up loving this story!

Horrendous, The next episode isn't that great either in fact I'd say season 3 is where it starts to get much better!

This episode gets so much hate for no real reason, it being one of the first doctor lite episodes people had alot of negative thoughts on it. I think it being a little silly doesnt help, but its apart of its charm imo

It get's hate because it is a rubbish story, This season isn't well regarded on the whole and with good reason

I'd better add myself to team "love it". But won't pretend I always did - I was 28 when it first aired. No hate, but some dislike - I was probably still too young and grumpy. 😁 Now, I just love the vibe, the check-in with Jackie, and Davies' commentary on "organized fandom". For the latter, with a very specific person being the inspiration, the Abzorbaloff "had to" be slimy and off-putting in RTD's mind, I guess. I *think* the original winning design was intended as a huge creature - which also didn't fit Davies' intentions. Or the budget, for that matter. 🙂 RTD does have a tendency to sometimes add one or two dashes of seasoning to his stories that probably would have been an improvement - if they had been left out completely. A la burping trash bins, farting aliens, and concrete slab jokes. But these days, I'm willing to look past that, when he delivers on all the more important stuff.

Agreed! I haven't thought about the burping trash can since. And they toned down the farting aliens on the second appearance. lol
