RICKY!! This was definitely Mickey’s time to shine in this Blockbuster of an episode that had me on the edge of my seat right up until the ending when I fell right off. Brilliant episode.

If you're going to spend a whole episode just building up to the real story in Part 2, at least that Part 2 is as great as this. In just their first appearance in the new series, the Cybermen are made into a very deep and even tragic brood, far beyond the self-mockery they'd devolved into by the time the classic series ended. Though a lot of fans were just plain confused at the ending, with RTD having gone to the trouble of making Mickey a new companion only to get rid of him almost immediately with only a single "normal" episode for him in between, with no explanation ever made by the crew. And this is where I regret that I have to share a certain piece of info I'd held off on for fear it would severely impact your ability to enjoy the show, as in recent years Noel Clarke has had numerous accusations of sexual harassment and assault, and once it started coming out the fans started speculating that this might have been the reason for his quick exit as British television has a long history of brushing this kind of thing under the rug.

This is one of the worst Cyberman stories, The only thing that I do like about it is the emotional inhibitor storyline as that hasn't really been touched on before now, not in this way anyway.

There's a deleted scene where we discover that Ricky and Jake were a couple. That's why Jake has quite a strong reaction to Ricky dying, and Mickey surviving. I really do love the characters in this. Mrs Moore's death was particularly tough to watch.
