An incredible story about the triumph of the human spirit. Ok, maybe that’s a cliche way to describe the movie, but it was wonderful to experience this story and I felt incredibly uplifted and inspired upon viewing.

Thanks, Holly for this selection!

I saw this movie with an old family friend on its release, and he declared it the best movie he’d ever seen. I wouldn’t quite go that far, and I wonder if he still holds to that two decades later, but it’s certainly a very great movie and especially impressive in how its various historical liberties are all in the name of enhancing the soul of what really happened rather than replacing it (perhaps most notably, War Admiral was barely larger than Seabiscuit rather than the gigantic monster in the movie). And of course there’s the inherent amusement of Obadiah Stane, Norman Osborn, and Peter Parker teaming up (this was right after the first Spider-Man film, while the other two roles were still several years away).

It's definitely a great film, but I would imagine the opinion changed over time. Who knows though. I never would have made the connections you just made, well done!

This is another one of those times where I'm going to have to talk about the unfortunate loss of the 'DVD bonus feature' that comes with streaming everything nowadays. Among the many interesting features that the DVD of this movie has, one of them is a making of featurette that shows side by side footage of the actual match race between Seabiscuit and War Admiral and the footage from the movie, showing how accurately they recreated it, down to the position of people running across the infield. George Woolf was played by real life award winning Jockey Gary Stevens. He had never acted in a movie before, but the director said he was a "natural actor". There are many close-ups during the racing scene where you can clearly see that it's actually him racing. If you're curious about how accurate this movie is to real life events, here's a brief biographics video that'll give you a pretty good idea: https://youtu.be/1ofuQTct4HA?si=kjIHdr5hqyyCh1vp

That level of accuracy will never not amaze me! When I was a younger I only bought a handful of discs, but I agree the bonus features can be really incredible! I actually just bought a movie on disc because I've never watched a 4K blu ray and I wanted to know if physical really makes that big of a difference lol. Probably not even that great of a film, but one day we'll find out!
