I was shocked at how this played out. I never would have guessed the enemy was so close to home. Straight up evil!

Interesting to me was the scene where Marco uses the “forced deck” to break Shaw’s programming. The closeup of Sinatra was out of focus for the first take. Frankenheimer did several more takes after fixing the focus, but none of them were as good as the first one. Apparently Sinatra had a reputation for doing his best work on the first take. Finally Frankenheimer decided to use the out-of-focus best take, reasoning that as Shaw’s programming broke down his vision became fuzzy. Just another example of a director who finds ways to get the best performances from actors.

Just finished the full watch with ya, and I wanna point out something missed. Zero shade as it's your first watch (when you gotta talk over the film) + the script/dialog is straight up *weird* at times + the *many* subtlies fly by lightning quick. When Raymond says he wants to marry Josie...he's being weird. And they take it as a joke and all laugh. It's not meant to seem normal. When Janet Leigh says she gave her fiancee's ring back...shes taking a piss. The dynamic between her and Sinatra is constant sarcasm and communicating through understood "lies". Its weird. The scene of her and him on the train is genuinely considered one of the most inexplicable scenes in (non-avant guard) cinema. Eraser Head makes more sense frankly. When Raymond is triggered by the red queen in the bar, the bartender is telling a story in the background saying, "take a cab down to Central Park and jump in a lake" is *why* Raymond then does that, as he's awaiting commands. Sinatra recognizes Raymond's Korean valet as a conspirator from the dream (he's on stage taking notes) and thats why he attacks him immediately, not racism. You missed (or chose to ignore) that when Angela explains to hypnotized Raymond that she simply wanted an assassin and not her beloved son to be brainwashed...the scene ends with her kissing him passionately on the lips. She loves him *too* much and yes, that is intended to be 😳🫣🤮. Sorry to be lecturing about pedantics. This film takes 3-6 viewings to catch most everything (train scene is just 🤔 😕?). Just wanted to shed some light on shadowed corners, if I could. Your reaction was stellar! 🫡

Oh yea, I was confused on a couple points that bled to other points lol. I didn't know WHAT the heck to make of Angela or her confession. She's nuts, but I suppose she COULD have been sincere. Wild. Thanks for watching the full reaction.
