BAND OF BROTHERS

Episodes 3 & 4 take us across enemy lines with 2 very different episodes, dealing with the realities of war, its sometimes relentless pace, and the unexpected.

Episode 4 starts at 1hr 4min 36sec

*I watched this on Blu Ray, but it is also available on (HBO) Max.

Episode 3 contains the single biggest inaccuracy in the series, which every release has made a point to correct in its special features. Albert Blithe never contacted anyone in Easy Company after the war, so they assumed he'd died of his injuries and reported that to Stephen Ambrose when he was writing the Band of Brothers book. But in fact he recovered from them, and went on to fight in the Korean War, where he was decorated for a daring parachute jump behind enemy lines. Then in 1967, shortly after being part of a commemoration of the Battle of the Bulge, he suffered a perforated ulcer and died at age 44. He'd never retired from the Army and was buried at Arlington with full honors.

For a more comprehensive look at Operation Market Garden, I highly recommend the film A Bridge Too Far. It includes a truly stunning mass parachute sequence done entirely for real.

We know about it because Blithe's descendants contacted HBO after the episode aired and gave them the full story.

Tom Hanks' first directing job was That Thing You Do, a throwback to '60s musical films about the rise and fall of a one hit wonder band. The record company in the film is called Playtone, which he then made the name of his production company as seen in Band of Brothers.

Don’t let your “contemplative tone” worry you. Your reaction is your reaction and we are watching it to see your response to the material. That’s the fun of reaction channels. You can see material you may of seen multiple times through someone else’s eyes.
