This is a great example of a movie I’d have never chosen on my own, never even heard of it, but it was so funny. I’m not even sure I “got” everything, but man did I laugh.

This was Madeleine Kahn's first film role, and it's quite jarring to see her playing a frumpy killjoy rather than the roles more like Judy that she'd become known for. And continuing the Mel Brooks connection, Kenneth Mars is perhaps best known for his roles in The Producers and Young Frankenstein (and if you don't know him from those, then you definitely do as the voice of King Triton in The Little Mermaid).

Peter Bogdonavich was a passionate film historian, and many of his movies are throwbacks to the classics. This one is his tribute to the screwball comedies of the '30s and '40s, but while those would typically just have two suitcases getting confused, he ups the ante by throwing in four. Check out Bringing Up Baby or The Lady Eve to see the inspiration.
