I didn't even know such a movie existed! This fits what I think is a particularly unique bill. It manages to be laugh out loud funny while still being a good monster flick! Incredible and iconic cast all around!

Thanks, Paul Zawicki for this selection!

Watching this right now. The actors for 2 of the monsters were the original legends that played those monsters in the first movies. Lon Chaney was the mummy.. the wolf man.. he was the man of a 1000 faces. Legosi was a heroine addict but was also the original Dracula. The change used on the wolf man was the same effect pioneered in the original wolf man movie

Yes! That really adds to the feel of the film even without seeing those films directly, there is a strong sense of familiarity and comfort with the monsters. Just to say it feels right at home.

I’m happy to see you enjoyed it! I think the reason it works so well is because the monsters were played straight by the actors (Bela Lugosi - Dracula, Glenn Strange - Frankenstein's Monster, and Lon Chaney, Jr. - The Wolf Man). They weren’t, “Wink, Wink, Nudge, Nudge," towards the audience, "Now I’m going to do something funny.” They portrayed their roles as if they were in a real horror film. But in essence, they became straight men for Abbott and Costello’s humor. I’m not sure if you’re aware of it, but he final character who speaks was Vincent Price; an icon of horror movies himself. Interesting enough, the original "Dracula" and this movie are the only times Bela Lugosi played Dracula.

I can only imagine if they had tried to be funny. I think as a general rule if everyone is trying to get the laugh things often fall flat.
