A sequel to the shining just may be an impossible task. Perhaps a sequel to any Kubrick film is an impossible task. Similar to the approach taken with 2010: The Year We Make Contact they focus on a truly narrative sequel rather than recreating the atmospheric style of the first and IT WORKS!

I NEVER could have expected what we got her. They expanded the story in a way that was interesting, disturbing, and really felt like a literary experience.

*note I purchased this film on Vudu. The director's cut is a bonus feature that can only be accessed by buying it. It is not available when you rent it. At this time of recording, I couldn't find a place to rent it. It has in the past been on HBO Max, bug it was not this day. Feel free to look around see if you can find a place!

Got a directors cut blu-ray off eBay for $7. Course it hasn't shown up yet, so...

Just finished 1st time watching "with" you, Chris. Solid flick, made better by your commentary!
Thing you missed (fair given you've seen The Shinnin once and not 10 times) is that the doctor's office from the AA meeting is the exact same office, "including" The Red Book (and same shots) from Jack interviewing to be caretaker of the Overlook in 'brick's flick.

Why? 's my question. Why is that scene there, aside from being clever.

Oh wild! Definitely not something I'd have noticed. Can't think of any reason other than to make fans go, "oh look it's just like the first one."
