Why is this a patreon exclusive you ask? The goal on my channel is to allow people to re-experience watching their favorite films for the first time. I don't believe my reaction to this film captures that. I felt like an outsider observing a foreign culture that I simply couldn't fully grasp.

Maybe one day I'll feel differently and release it into the wild, but for now this edit is just for you. If you'd like to observe my journey and maybe give me a little insight into the parts I struggled with then by all means....

By the way, I did take some time off after recording this reaction to refresh. Had a difficult couple of weeks leading up to it and I really needed a break, which I have now had and am feeling much better :)

Hey Chris...sorry you've had a rough time, and glad you are better. You should not beat yourself up for not connecting with certain films...and this one, like Cuckoo's Nest, is another anti-hero film...one of the earliest, in fact, which for many spat in the face of the "Leave it to Beaver"/"Father Knows Best" mentality of the 50's. It perhaps does come across a bit as a museum piece rather than a film that can be emotionally absorbed by modern day audiences. What makes it still interesting to watch for me are a couple of things. First, it is one of only three films that James Dean made before he was tragically killed in a car crash at only 24 years old. Dean, as well as Sal Mineo (who played Plato and who was also killed at a young age) were both gay icons of sorts and there is a lot of deliberate subtext in Plato's relationship to Dean's character. As one who struggled with my own coming out story and felt like an outsider at times, I was able to relate somewhat to this story of misfits who came from broken families and grasped at whatever they could to feel loved. I never shot puppies, though...that was a rough one to get around and it does alienate the character too much. I wish that detail had been eliminated.

Thanks for the comment! Another sign I needed a break, I was very in my head lol. I'd be curious to know how other reactors enjoy the film. I think there's only one who has done it and he seemed to really enjoy it. I wonder if I'd been in a different head space if I wouldn't have fixated on those things. We'll never know! I appreciate you sharing your story and perspective! Especaiily grateful you never shot puppies. ;)

BTW there's one (and only one) more upcoming film I didn't like, but I was very ok with that in this case 🤣

Just wanna weigh in...calling Rebel a "museum piece" is, imao, the most concise description of the movie I've ever heard. All my negativity and positivity about it: it's a museum 🖼️🎨. Cheers, David.
