One of the biggest barriers to spreading the game far and wide and letting it be enjoyed by potentially thousands, is language.  Currently we've only supported English, but I'm proud to announce we're going to be translating Life in Woodchester into 18 different languages!

You might be asking how this is even possible and how it affects the English translation of the game. Well the secret lies in both AI translation and volunteers like you to help proof read!

🤖DeepL Translation & Crowd Translation

Translation has come a long way since the early days of Google Translation. The plan is to use DeepL or a variation for each of the above languages and export the data into a csv. That CSV file can then be pushed online to a website called Crowdin. That data can be proofread by users (like you!) and moderators can confirm the changes. This csv is then exported everytime we do a new release, so you guys can have the latest and greatest translations!

We were initially worried that all the languages will store up too much data worth of dialogue, but after a few tests, it will barely impact the size of the game in comparison to things like CGs, SFX and other media.

While we wont be personally focused on keeping translations 100% accurate, I do think this lays a strong infrastructure and incentive for the community to help keep Life in Woodchester growing <3

So when you download Life in Woodchester in the future, everyone will have access to all languages, no external downloads needed!
