Alright this one fucking sucked. This movie is genuinely the most misogynistic movie I have ever seen, and I'm saying that as someone who has JUST watched every Bond movie in order.

Jackie Chan wanted to meet stephen spielberg so he agreed to do this movie about a cabbie who becomes a chauffeur to James Bond (Real), then inherits his super powered tuxedo when things get sticky. Next bonus we're gonna watch a better Jackie Chan movie to do him a little less dirty.

To be fair I was also born in 2001 and while I totally know who he is I haven’t had a thought about him in the pst ten years outside of these episodes so I could see someone born in like 2005 not having much of an idea

For those younger listeners who don't quite grasp how absolutely huge Jackie Chan was at this time, there was an animated TV series in which Jackie Chan was straight up voiced by another dude. And we ate that shit up so much it ran for five goddamn seasons. The theme tune was by Wheatus, who almost still mattered at that point.

Chan did appear in little live-action outro sequences to tell you facts and shit. It was great.

For non-American listeners, "CSA" here means "Confederate States of America"

Idk what the age range for Patrons here are but I’m 20 and I did know who Jackie Chan was. I grew up on reruns of the cartoon

Kill James Bond Highlights

I haven't listened yet but for some reason that little image of a heroforge business shirt made me laugh out loud.

Welp, I guess I have to take down my Combined Syndicates of America flag.

Oh god, poor Grace. At least you didn't make her watch this one.

Anthony

"you told me you dealt with Devin with the skate board bomb" is delivered with exactly the same cadence as "do I look like I know what a JPEG is"

"called the BBC usually" i am clapping for you alone in my house

Weirdly the second podcast I listen to that decided to shit on The Tuxedo this month, is this hauntology?

Got to the end of the episode feeling pretty normal and then Abi destroys me with the phrase "delicious fish pie". A thing I have never conceived of. I don't want to search "fish pie" on a Tuesday night, but I'm gonna.

crumbling into dust when they say that young people wont know who Jackie Chan is

ZaitsevFred

Had to listen to Alice's Liz impression five or six times for important cinema appreciation reasons

Bees McBee

Don’t worry young people know who Jackie Chan is. When we were kids we watched him beat up a group of twelve year olds in the Karate Kid remake.

I am from Hong Kong and I have been encouraging my friends to subscribe to this bonus feed to learn more about Hong Kong cinema.

i am a zoomer and i briefly remember watching a jackie chan cartoon like once. have no idea what it’s called

Matt

I know I'm not young but listening to them describe Jackie Chan made my bones crumble. He was in that movie Rush Hour that came out what, 5 or 6 years ago? No I will not look up the exact date.

Maz

I remember this movie fairly well, but like, not the misogyny, the cool tuxedo, the people crumbling into dust (I sure thought about that for a while when I was a kid) and that thing about lighting a cigarette I feel a lot of movies around that time had the same level of misogyny

Maz

shot in the dark here, but perhaps "Jackie Chan Adventures" which was incredible

Tripp

Damn do I wish Community-Supported Agriculture was more popular...

anamoy

lol "misogyny" tag

Broth Mirepoix

kind of sobering realizing Jackie Chan needs explained

Imagining the process that results in an organization tying a prisoner up in shibari. Thug 1: "So, uh, does any of us actually know how to securely tie people up?" Thug 3: "I'm sure I can find instructions on the internet somewhere..." *smash cut to shibari-tied prisoner* Thug 1: ... Thug 3: "What? I followed the instructions!"

James Craft

Dante's Peak would've been better

subscribed specifically to listen to this episode. I never watched this movie, but I do remember getting the trailer for it on every PG movie I ever bought or rented in 2002. "What a great concept for a movie," I thought. "Surely even Hollywood couldn't completely ruin this"

L

drunken master 2 is great

Harrison Fuller

Why is the Podcast Image the HeroForge shirt and tie and not the actual tuxedo outfit that’s also there?

2023-03-16 13:59:05 Yup. Born in 1984, still listened to the Beatles, the Who, Simon & Garfunkel. Who doesn't grow up at least partially enjoying their parents' cultural touchstones? Hell, even ancient Mesopotamian copper seller Ea-Nasir has a tumblr fandom.
