Regarding the animation, following your reactions kinda inspired me to go through the 500s again (bangers all around. Nothing else to say, really). But as I was going through it, I started to get this sneaking suspicion that this is actually a very close variant of the final art style. Did some research, and from what I've gathered, this is more or less the last major update until the 700s. And even then, the art style after the 700s ends up reverting back to this particular update, most likely due to time constraints. From there on, it slightly changes every now and then to the art style the anime uses today

Detective Conan's animation is a bit inconsistant with characters that don't appear much, but besides that it will stay the same for awhile.
