Didn't remember the "She'll tell you" part when i watched Buffy the past 2 times.

Something to keep in mind, gay marriage wasn’t legal in the US until 2015. This season aired about 13 years before. Back then, moving in together was about as close as most same-sex couples could get to marriage. At the time this aired Willow would have been seen as a grieving widow in the graveyard scene by many in gay/queer communities. And this was in the context of the AIDS epidemic.

I LOVE this episode and it's such a perfect ep for rewatching. Cassie is one of my FAVE side characters of the buffyverse the actress did such an incredible job! Glad you enjoyed it so much and the vague hints/riddles of what's to come 😉

This is the first time I noticed that the demon's name, Avilas, is "saliva" spelt backwards. Also, I'm not sure if I can forgive Buffy for getting Blue Öyster Cult's name wrong!

As someone who's done a lot of pastoral work like Buffy's role in the high school, I really liked that the show took this time to explore who Buffy is to the people in her wider community.... She's always approached her role as the Slayer as being as much pastoral in character as it is about being a warrior. This whole storyline I saw as a development of her burgeoning new relationships with Dawn and Willow this season, how she's beginning to understand the impact she does and can have on the people around her, how her fighting for people, trying to help them is valuable in itself and powerful in their longer term effects. As some other people have said in the thread, it matters that Cassie's last days were characterized by connection. It matters that the last thing she experienced was a human being who cared, fighting for her, hoping for her. It mattered to Cassie, and it mattered to Dawn and Willow and Xander and Spike to see her doing it.

Ooh, Alley is so far into the show already. Next Buffy episode is perhaps my favourite of the season. Can't wait!

I never caught that she's reading Slaughterhouse-Five: literally a book about dealing with knowing the future and dealing with the inevitability of tragedy.

Cassies name is also a reference to the Greek Cassandra, who was able to accurately see the future, but was cursed that she was unable to stop it, as no one would heed her.

My guess is that they were not able to procure the right to use the band's name. Otherwise there could have been legal problems.

Terri

Does anyone else kind of wish Allie would rewatch S07 from the beginning once she finished? Like she said, there are SO MANY CLUES!! She would finally get all the little riddles.

Alley's thoughts about Spike actively seeking out his soul to make sure he would never do something like that again, are precisely why I'm Team Spike forever. Angel gets literal unlimited passes from the fandom about trying to end the world, murdering Buffy's friends, gaslighting/negging her about their sexual experiences, having sex with a teenager... and then everyone puts on blinders when it comes to Spike's attempted SA. Both were demons when they committed all their awful acts. But one of them murdered someone for attempting to restore his soul, while the other actively seeked out redemption and to get his soul back to be a better man. I love Angel, but I hate this weird unbalanced view of them as demons acting as demons. Also, the final scene in "Beneath You" is one of my favorites in the entire series. So emotional.

I think I agree about that. It helps that my favorite episode of season six is my favorite episode of TV ever, but the writer’s just got every single thing right about the next one. And the humor is really funny too. That ‘catalog’ joke made me spit up soda.

Richard Lucas

I’m usually AWFUL at figuring things out. The spike soul thing at the end of last season left me gasping! But I got this one pretty quick when it aired. They really did play fair, the clues really are all there.

Richard Lucas

I have to say I’m pro spike too. I mean, I think him killing that sweet magic shop owner in 3-8 was far more horrible then what he tried with Buffy in 6-19, I guess because I knew she would win, and James played it like he clearly didn’t know what he was doing, as opposed to 3-18 and the he kills in 2-3. I feel like if fans can get past those, they should be able to get past him failing to SA Buffy. I’m not taking it lightly, but he was soulless, and to cold to the realization that he must get his soul back, wow. But imagine when he did. Just that family with the little child in the coal bin that he told Dawn about. Pre-v Spike was a sensitive soul. He really was quite lovely, and Cecily was a bit of a bitch to dismiss him so quickly, even though it might have been for societal reasons. Also Spike clearly took his revenge on the men in that group, but I get a feeling he wouldn’t have been able to with Cecily. Thoughts on that?

I think my main problem with the rationalization for Willow's story is that they had Giles say in the first episode of this season, "it's not a hobby or an addiction.". That was the writers telling the audience, "we're moving on from that story, don't worry about it.".

She'll end up rewatching when she edits the YouTube versions.

I’m so pumped for every reaction of yours this season! I hear a lot of hate for this season, but honestly it’s my favorite. I won’t say more for now, but I’m so pumped for you to experience everything.
