Solid episode. I'd probably give it an 8.0 - 8.5 myself. The creepy-crawlies are particularly reminiscent of the aliens in "The Faculty," which are basically parisites that require constant hydration to stay alive, much like the translucent creatures seen here. Though I think most of the episode is well-done, I do agree that while Wesley's solution of using alcohol (which dehydrates) to disinfect Fred was clever, having Cordelia annihilate the rest of the creatures by glowing a lot seemed too easy. Admittedly, the magic system in the Buffyverse hasn't always been consistent. Sometimes they make it obvious that it operates within a set of rules (or at least certain spells do), and other times it seems that certain magic users can do almost anything they want. From what we've seen so far, it seems that Cordy's powers tend toward a soft magic system (one in which the user can do whatever is required) rather than a hard system in which the rules are more specific. Only time will tell if this continues to be the case. And hey, Jurassic Park III is not an obscure reference for me. While it is certainly the weakest of the original trilogy, I still enjoy it. It's a guilty pleasure for me, too (the original movie will always reign supreme, though). And yeah, your comparison of Connor with Eric was interesting. I can kinda see it.

And again, episode 19 setting up the final arc of the season by having someone show up from an alternate dimension, just like season 2.

I think people are reading into the 'Cordy should have been there for Wes at the hospital- thing. It's as simple as Charisma not being available to film. It works well with Fred anyway, this is someone he is in love with telling him to his face he fucked up badly, it still gets the emotion across that Wesley is alone and at his lowest point in his life with no one to support him. Not saying it wouldn't have worked better with Cordy, but that card just wasn't in the deck at the time.

I like the horror vibe and the creepiness of this episode. I agree with you about the Cordelia ex machina. It would have felt less contrived if they set it up better. As for Connor immediately identifying his dad, it works only if with a lot of assumptions: that he knew were he was, that he arrived there deliberately, that he can sense who is a vampire.

Two things. Firstly, Jurassic Park 3 was a good movie. Not great, but it was good. Secondly, I assume that Qortoth was some kind of hell dimension, where time passes more quickly. It would make sense, considering how old Connor is now.

It also shows that Fred cares about him, although not the same as Charles (Gunn).

I second the recommendation for „Triangle“ - it‘s a really entertaining movie, if you‘re into mystery/horror.

Dave Ford

JP3? I dunno - I literally fell asleep at the cinema half-way through it. If you ask me, if you're able to fall asleep during a movie about fricking dinosaurs, they're doing something wrong.

Great episode. I love creepy stuff like this. I admit, I was expecting you to say that Connor also looked like your ex...

Ron Fehr

Dave Ford We probably have slightly different tastes. I wasn't just concerned with action sequences. I admit that I like the first two more.

I love the horror vibe of this one. A very cool and creepy episode but them getting to the end being like, “Cordy glows out of nowhere and they all die” is a bad way to end that plot line. But a very cool actual ending to the episode with Conner coming out of the portal.

Alley several eps ago: Ugh, a baby, really? On this show? Me: Not gonna be a problem for long! 😁

This episode was reminiscent of Buffy 06x03 Afterlife, the hitchhiker piggybacking of a major spell

The creature design and the intense thirst feels like it was ripped straight out of 1998's 'The Faculty,' which if you haven't seen, I highly recommend it. Coincidentally, in 'The Cabin in the Woods,' there's a mention of a 1998 "glitch" which is thought to refer to 'The Faculty.'

I was not expecting you to mention Triangle!! That's one of my favorite thriller/suspense/mindfuck movies hahah. I'm so happy that you love it too. My boyfriend mentions Cabin in the Woods all the time for some reason, so with the Buffyverse connections I just learned from the comments, I guess I have to check it out now.
