Now let's talk about age difference ethics. I'm not going to go into age of consent laws, the average is 16 around the world, some even as low as 14. This isn't what I'm addressing. So, the main problem with age difference isn't about age at all, it's about power. Things to consider are wealth, intelligence, personal agency but most importantly; do they have a duty of care? Are they a teacher, guardian, sports coach, psychologist etc. In this case, Angel doesn't have this power in any circumstance, as he doesn't exist on paper, he's not apart of the human world. He's certainly not a sugar daddy, he looks like he barely has enough to get blood. Intelligence, well it's certainly interesting, Angel is obviously very intelligent. But Buffy isn't an idiot, and Angel hasn't been manipulating her, just protecting her. Now agency, hell no has Angel decided the trajectory of her life, she is the chosen one, that wasn't Angel idea and he hasn't tried to get her away from her life's calling. So is there any power discrepancy between Angel and Buffy? Well yes actually, but the scales tip towards Buffy having more power in the relationship. She is the slayer, it is her duty to kill vampires, and he does have a body count. She's also stronger than Angel, and it's not like she'd be charged for murder. So no, I don't feel weird about this, because Buffy has a lot more power in this situation than would normally be the case.

Pretty much agree with this, except for the bit where you talk about relative strength, I don't believe the show has given us anything definitive on who's stronger. He saved her from the 3, she threw him out of her house (but I doubt he tried to resist).
