A new beta version and another step closer to a stable version of v13!

I haven’t posted or replied much during the previous couple of weeks because there were some more pressing things to deal with on a personal level. But that is all sorted and this last week I have been playing catch up. I finally managed to work through all the messages, posts, and comments. Thus, it is time for a new beta!

As promised, no new content, but bug fixes and changes required for making a stable version.

However, many, many people have asked me about adding the latest published content from WotC: Explorer’s Guide to Wildemount, and I figured that it is only fair to have you all vote on if this should take priority or not.

 • Reworked semantic versioning to be more robust in comparing older files
 • Add the Artificer icon (yes again, but now for real, still made by Smashman)
 • Fixed Wand of Wonder incorrectly changing the range of Faerie Fire
 • Changed the description of Create Undead to use a more common abbreviation “i.a.” instead of “a.o.”
 • Added a weapon description for the Eldritch Invocation “Lifedrinker”
 • Fix for weapons added through class features that have a cantrip as a ‘baseWeapon’ not being recognized as such
 • Fix for using modifiers on an WeaponsList entry that uses a DC instead of a to hit roll
 • Change the level order in which the monk ki features are added to work better with monk subclasses
 • Fix small bugs when using custom import scripts
 • Fix for importing from another sheet not remembering the sources being included and excluded
 • Fix for importing from another sheet bringing along unnecessary custom script files
 • Fix for changing selected cantrips not correctly affecting the attacks when not generating a spell sheet
 • Reduced the file size of the default import script, thus reducing the overall file size (credits belong to Smashman)

I think the poll below is pretty straight-forward, but warrants some emphasis nonetheless. All I want to add is that creating the EGtW content is expected to take less time than finishing the testing around a stable v13 and arranging an easily accessible spot to host it.

I voted Wildemount first because who knows what that might throw into the mix. But then, I'm no programmer. I've no idea whether it's easier to do in two then sort unforseen interactions, or just do as a lump sum.

add sheet for Roll 20

Sean Jenkins

I'm a big fan of "make it work right before making it work fancy". Walk first, then dance.

morepurplemorebetter

This is a very big request. I don't really program sheets on Roll20 and I think they already offer a very good D&D 5e sheet over there. Or do you mean to add some kind of method of bringing the sheet over from MPMB to Roll20? That is a feature request that is best made on Discord (and something similar is already requested). One might argue that if it works but still doesn’t include all relevant content, then it doesn’t really work.

As above in my reply, I can't really have my players use v13 because of the potential for sheet-breaking problems (and there's always the risk of backwards compability being lost again). How long has v12.99 been out? 2 years?

I agree with you that having a stable version should take priority and it seems most people voting do so as well. I have just gotten so many messages asking about Wildemount (think 100+) that I figured a vote was in order.

Just beeing devils advocate but for 8000 bucks a month, some tests may be implemented :)

Hey Matthias, I previously have emailed with Joost about test automation and done a little digging myself. I couldn't find any obvious test framework for writing automation for Adobe Javascript. That was 6 months ago so maybe somethings changed since then. If you have any leads, then I'm definitely interested in helping.

So, out of curiosity, since the voting seems to have been a stable version first, and then Wildemount, do we have a time frame for that to occur? I'm only asking because I've actually had zero problems with the sheet as is, and voted for Wildemount first. :D

This may be a very strange question, but is it even possible to have a website with these character sheets for free, considering WotC is actively removing wiki's which contain information that is non-SRD? These sheets are very handy, and I really enjoy using them, and will remain doing so, because they contain all class features etc. How would WotC respond to the existence of such a website, considering it is basically a player's handbook?

As much as I would love more content. I feel the Stable and Free v13 should be done first. Got to follow through on promises. It will foster better sentiment in future endeavors.

While if it was the choice between a stable V13 and more UA, Id be all for V13. However, Wildemount being an official book with new subclasses and spells, I feel it's a priority to get those onto the sheets. Then work on stability for a finished V13 before Theros is released. Let UA be "the extra" that can sit until you are waiting for a new official book with everything else done. I feel like the constant influx of UA and trying to keep up with them is maybe whats filling the workload up. That said, if Stable V13 wins, I wont be upset. Id just like to get Wildemount in asap. :)

I already like the current version. My only qualm is that my tablets are terrible with loading it (but I figured that is an Adobe Reader problem or my tablet). I'm looking forward to seeing a finalized product. Wildemount will still be around when the bugs are fixed.

I hope Wildemount is released first. To me this version is already stable enough. I have never had problems with it. I appreciate your promise and focus but I feel like any issues people are having with the pdf are probably minor. Your pdf for content and quick and effective character builds is probably the best out. Can't say I've found or saw a better character sheet maker. Wildemount has a good bit of content with it so it being included in your pdf would be really great. I know I'm personally excited for when it is updated with Wildemount content. Looking forward to making characters that use Echo Knight! lol

I think, You are doing a great job! As stated - more stable version is better than version full of new content but with bugs and problems. New content can wait - it will be always good to implement it. Bugs have tendency to multiply if fixing them is postponed. Usually this behaviur ends with bugs waitning whole eternity... If you will be able to fix them, there is a chance that future new content would be easier to add or to troubleshoot (old bugs will not darken the results).

Yunru

These sheets contain no info that isn't in the SRD. Whatever custom content you add is not the responsibility of MPMB.

zeel

I would push for v13, if someone really needs to get that new content on their sheet, they can always add it themselves.

Anonymous

You are doing a great job I think making it more stable should be a priority since we can add info by our self.

I would like to see the love domain added. Unity, would be okay. Love was a better domain from the UA.

Alexander Mulhern

Stabilise 13 for sure. I suspect there's a quiet majority who couldn't give two figs about Wildemount. I'm more intrigued to see how you tackle the scaling Psi Talent dice in the latest psionics subclasses :')

I would love to see Wildemount. I've only ever had one problem with the sheet as it stands, and I am really wanting to build and Echo Knight.

Found a bug when importing from v28 to 29 that it doesn't show the feat in the feat section. when i go to add it, it says that it is already there. it shows it in the reactions section on page one.

morepurplemorebetter

Thank you for reporting any issues you find with the betas! Can you tell me with which feat you have this issue with? And if you have any custom scripts imported into your sheet and if the character was brought over from another version into beta28? I'm guessing this is some kind of strang interaction with something else of your character. I just tested all the feats that use a reaction, and they all import fine from beta28 to beta29, so it is not (just) the feat itself. Could you please send me (a link to) your beta28 character sheet so that I can use it to test with? Thank you!

Using sheets several times a week just to create characters for fun and never had problems with 13-beta (had issues with 12.999 only). Imo new content > v13, since beta is already in pretty good state.

My lvl5 firbolg tempest cleric is stuck at only two 1st level spell slots. :(

morepurplemorebetter

Thank you for reporting any issues you find with the betas! I have no issue with the amount of spell slots with a cleric (be it tempest, firbolg, or whatever). As I'm unable to reproduce the error, can you walk me through how to get the sheet to show this problem, starting with a freshly downloaded v13.0.0.beta29?

If Abilities are 8 should the associated skill be -1?

Anonymous

Unless you have Proficiency with the skill in question.

Just joined Patreon but have been using your sheets since v9. Figured it was about time. I'd personally like to see a stable v13, scripting new content (including UA), then adding new features - in that order.
