Hello !

I get why people were saying this show is way darker than the usual Star Wars movies and shows, because the colors and the lights are clearly on another tone and because the story and the main character are already darker also. We have someone doing bad businesses when before we were with the Mandalorian, Boba Fett and Obi-Wan who made "doing the right things" the faith of their lives. And, even if Cassian didn't want to kill these guards, he didn't hesitate a lot, he knew it had to be done and he never regretted it, spending the rest of the episode fighting to hide it.

For me, it's darker, yes, but how the show is filmed with long sequences and movements of camera like that, with the people we follow being "normal" ones and with almost the entire episode presented without any music, this first episode insists on the realism of the story. We have two main characters who are already written in parallel with each other, with a Lieutenant who has a severe moral compass in opposition to Cassian who had a lot of unresolved bad business. Another parallel is made between Young Cassian who lived a "pure" life in nature and Present Cassian living a "dirty" life in this mining town.
