A weird episode like only Rick and Morty can offer, but at the same time it's a way to interrogate the relationships between characters. The fact that the solution here it's "if we had bad memories at some point between each other, we're real", it's symbolic, no ? And we have also other things about characters : Morty ready to kill Rick (we know he already crossed that line before, killing someone), Rick catchy phrases but also the period of time when he disappeared being questioned, Summer left behind, Jerry who is not sure himself to be real (when the other ones are sure of themselves) and, for Beth…

We saw her drinking before but here, we have two scenes to show that she uses alcohol to drown her sadness. A little like Rick, no ? We never questioned Rick's alcoholism, almost like it's a fact and that's all, but we know now it hides how bad it feels, so to have his daughter using the same way to deal with her issues… I think the writers are gonna continue with that, for Beth, to go deeper with her.
