Hello !

The end of this final episode of the first half of season 11 was predictable. In fact, I even called it in the intro : we have to lose a lot, to win at the end. Alexandria is destroyed by the storm, with deads coming and maybe killing people we love, it's gonna force our guys to give up on the town, something that they have had in mind for a long time. The Commonwealth, we didn't have news, but one was arrested, the others used for bad work, it's bad also, and this old system can't be applied into this world, at least not for our guys.

The real surprise for me was Leah herself killing Pope. But again, it was logical : since episodes, she responded, she disobeyed, she disagreed, and right here, he was ok to sacrifice some of their people. And it's the main thing defining her since we met her, she would do anything to protect her people. That's why her choice to stay at the end is also logical. Even Daryl can understand it.

I'm still french, so I'm still sorry if my english hurts you.

I really liked the change of pace of this season (and the "bonus episodes" at the end of the previous season). It felt more similar to the season inbetween leaving the prison and joining Alexandria, with most people split into small groups and several episodes focused on just a few of them. There was so much similarity, I was half expecting Carol to come and save Maggie's group by blowing up a gas tank with a sniper rifle, like she did with Terminus. 😂 I think the biggest surprise for me was how much I enjoyed the interaction between Maggie and Negan. When they first started setting it up, I didn't think I'd be a big fan of it. I was afraid it was just going to be them constantly back-and-forth trying to outmaneuver and not trust each other, and it did start out that way, but I think they developed it pretty well. And after the masterpiece of a final episode last season with Negan's backstory, it just makes it so much better. I honestly can't say I'm on one person's "side" more than the other. My one major complaint with this season is that I feel like they're losing the ability to surprise us. I never "enjoy" seeing a character die or go through hardship, but it seems so long since I felt like any character was really in danger of dying. I think the last "main" character to die was Siddiq toward the beginning of Season 10. We know Carol and Daryl can't die, and even when Rick, Michonne, and Maggie left the show, they didn't get die either, they all just left. I still enjoyed a lot of moments of the show over the past two seasons, but when the suspensful moments don't feel like the main characters are in REAL danger in a show like this, it loses a lot. Going into this episode, I expected Leah to either turn on Daryl or on Pope, but not BOTH. Like you said though, the way that it played out definitely made sense for her character. It seems like they're trying to make her out as the replacement character for the next part of the season, but I can't see it playing out that way for long. They already made it clear that Leah wouldn't kill others just for the sake of it, and I don't think she'd be that motivated by revenge to go after Maggie's group if they no longer posed an immediate threat. I think the story will slowly shift more and more towards the Commonwealth. I also didn't really like the ending. I was expecting a cliff-hanger, but this was just sort of strange... In case the YT comments didn't mention it, I saw that this season will actually be divided in THREE parts (of 8 episodes each), so we'll have a bit more time to see how things play out.
