So, the running theory is that the Candle, and in turn Casita, house the spirit of Abuelo Pedro. Pedro, through Casita, knew that the family wasn't as strong as it needed to be(what with everyone casting Bruno out). He also knew that Abuela would need someone to "run the show" in her absence, if she wanted to retire or if inevitably she passed away. So, Abuelo Pedro chose to pass the gift of the Encanto down to Mirabel. He saw that she was full of hope and she had the ability. Case in point: Abuela seems to have a special connection to Casita. In that she has a special way of understanding the gestures Casita makes. She can also ask Casita to do something and Casita obeys without hesitation. Like during the breakfast after Antonio's gift ceremony when she orders Casita to move Mirabel and Casita immediately obliges. Let's look at Mirabel. She also has a special connection to Casita that no one else in the family has. She understands what Casita is trying to say, she talks to Casita, and even orders it to get her to the Candle near the end of the film. Other family members tried to get to the Candle at the end of the film too. And while Casita wouldn't let harm come to Camillo or Isabella as they tried to reach the Candle, Casita only let Mirabel get to the candle. Another good exampple of Mirabel having a connection with Casita is when she went into Bruno's tower and asked Casita to turn off the sand. Casita responds, but without Mirabel, we the audience would have no clue what Casita was trying to say. There are many other scenarios where Mirabel shows a connection to Casita but I won't list all of them here. One's enough. Abuelo Pedro's soul inhabiting the Candle and/or Casita just makes the most sense to me. Because the miracle was given to Abuela for her family and the village. Mirabel didn't get a special ability gift, but I could argue she got the same thing Abuela got. To have that gift of the miracle passed down. And as long as the family is strong, accepting and loving one another as they are. Not expecting too much of each other. You know the way they ended the movie. The miracle will continue to bless that Encanto.

omg i was literally going to watch this last night but held off on it- thankfully i did, but if you’re getting into disney the classics are a MUST; toy story, emperors new groove (underrated imo). i think you’ll love big hero 6

harexx

wreck it ralph, the incredibles, inside out

James Allen

Yesss, I watched this on Christmas Day and fell in LOVE. I think Camilo is my fave, mostly cos he has my favourite power (the shapeshifting)

You can't really go wrong with any Pixar film (except The Good Dinosaur, which was horrible); I haven't seen A Bug's Life, Brave (or Cars 3?) so won't comment on them. Some of my personal favs are (in order of release): Finding Nemo, The Incredibles, Ratatouille, WALL-E, Up, Inside Out, and Coco (plus the Toy Story franchise).

I recommend watching Atlantis if you haven’t seen it already, shits underated. Or watch Anastasia (technically not a Disney film but was made by a forgotten/short lived extension of Disney)

Mario Lopez

Love this film I would suggest watching zootopia, Luca, Tangled, Big Hero 6, Monsters Inc, Onward and that is just some of them.

I think part of the reason this film hasn’t been generating too much conversation is because this was released in the midst of multiple holidays (at least here in the states). And Disney movies really just sell themselves at this point, so not an overload of marketing. My favorites were Antonio and Bruno (Antonio is my child and I will protect him at all costs 🙅🏻‍♂️). I appreciated how the filmmakers included a heavy topic (immigration) in a way that could be accessible to a wide audience that perhaps couldn’t previously relate to it.

Jeff Cabrera

Some of my personal recommendations are: Big Hero 6, Toy Story 1-4, Wall-E, Up, Finding Nemo, Onward, or maybe rip off the Frozen band-aid (while you’re in the musical mood 😂)

Mojoblitz

You should totally watch Hamilton next!

Honestly I didn't know this film existed but I also haven't watched an animated Disney film in god knows when. I was surprised how many messages were in this film, it felt like almost every scene had a message to give. I wonder if this film is actually like super powerful for kids in empowering themselves. I'm usually not the biggest fan of musicals either but a lot of the songs were pretty fun and catchy in this. Favourite family member I feel like it has to be Antonio- he was the only one that stuck up for her and was just too cute, and he also gave us all the funny animals 🦜

Watch Tarzan, The Emperor's New Groove, and Hunchback of North Dame!

Also just a note, you somehow made a new tag "movie Reaction" for this rather than adding "Movie Reaction" like the others 😂

I love this movie! I have a few Colombian friends and they said that they’re very very proud of this movie. There’s a lot of Colombian literature and historical events that inspired this film. They did a great job representing the culture here too! And the songs are sooooo good! My favourite character is Dolores 😁

Achille Grimonprez

Such a good film, I think you'd really like Luca as well !

Bruno is my favorite family member and We Don't Talk About Bruno is my favorite song in the movie. I love misunderstood characters. For other Disney movies to watch Moana is fantastic.

Chris

Loved Encanto, the animation is amazing. I recommend Inside Out if you have not seen it! It's Pixar tho!

Santos Luna Ramirez

Besides the more obvious “she didn’t get a gift in order to save her family” I’ve seen a theory that she didn’t get one cuz she wiped her hands clean after touching the candle. 🤔 a detail they didn’t place for nothing, while Antonio didn’t

JIM SCHMITZ

Yes, watch every one of the above recommendations. Pixar is especially strong on content. They've been top contenders for major awards for decades, as well as many of the Disney studios releases cited above. "Coco" has a very similar feel to this one.

If you don't mind non-Disney animated films (hand-drawn traditional animation, 90's era), I've got 2 recommendations: Anastasia, originally made by 20th Century Fox and inspired by a true story of the Russian royal family, it's on Disney+. The animation style is so beautiful and the music is just gorgeous. Another one is a true masterpiece that is The Prince of Egypt, totally not Disney and I believe is not on Disney+ but it's really worth watching because it's one of the best animated films ever made, everything about this movie is pure art, from the storytelling to animation style to the epic music, and if you're not sold, here's another selling point: Prince of Egypt has Ralph Fiennes and Jeff Goldblum as voice actors.

Alex

Nora Bossa

I’m from Colombia and i gotta tell you, the landscapes, the architecture of the house, the clothing, the accents, the music… all very accurate. 😁 amazing animation as well.

Gambit

If you really enjoyed it, you should watch Luca!!!! Such a cute movie. This was a cute movie, I had been meaning to watch it. Great Reaction Seb! xoxo <3

Jimmy Burns

Luca! Man such a great movie!

Ray D

You need to watched Tangled!! My favourite ‘modern era’ Disney film!

Lucile Byrd

I love this movie but it rubs me entirely the wrong way. I get disney movies needing to have messages about love and family and forgiveness above all, but Mirabel was treated poorly, especially by Abuela and Isabella, yet we she had to understand their points and apologize to them rather tan the other way around! I am sorry, but that is not okay to me!
