And now the long wait for season 2, oh it's in 2 days? Lucky me!

Would love to hear if this show is more enjoyable on repeated watches as I would imagine it is with knowing about all the timelines etc. I was doing some reading and I did not know it was based on the books which is pretty cool!

Do you guys have any theories for season 2 and is it going to be 8 episodes as well?

i hope season 2 focuses on geralt (who wouldn’t want more cavill on their screens lol) and ciri, i think they’re only scratching the surface of her powers... also is daddy geralt... becoming a actual daddy?? 👀 lmaoo

but yes it’s better a second watch cuz at first the three timelines confused the shit out of me 😅

I've only played the witcher 3 (became my favourite game of all time). The game itself gave me a lot of lore and a good idea of how some stuff happens and characters power levels etc. 2nd watching is quite enjoyable too but nothing quite beats a first time viewing

To be fair, a lot of people I know were confused by the timelines. I caught on fairly quickly (when young Foltest and his sister appeared is when I realized we were dealing with different timelines). So instead of treating certain events as flashbacks, I was able to see them as present events in that timeline. And as much as I enjoyed Geralt, I fully stan Yennefer. Maybe it’s because I gravitate toward powerful, unhinged characters (ex: Scarlet Witch) but she was definitely my favorite (I loved her arc). It would be crazy to be done with her yet, so I’m not too worried about her fate at the end of this episode.

Also, because I know this is based off of a series of books/games, I’m aware that this season is very introductory (therefore, I didn’t feel cheated by all of the character’s paths barely converging toward the end. It is ALOT of world building, but I’m sure it’s necessary for however many seasons they want to do.

I did really like this show but I agree with your points. This show was 8 decent length episodes and in reality we only saw a few events happen and then extended backstory which either had minor relevance in connecting them to this final episode, or maybe more relevance in later seasons. It felt like a show that needed a lot more episodes in it's arsenal for the pacing. I know COVID probably delayed it but 2 years for each season would make this a very long show to get anywhere unless they up the pace in the next season. The upside I guess is we got a decent chunk of character development through that pacing. I think the timeline stuff is probably the thing they did worst. I don't feel like hiding it gave anything to the story and made it confusing fairly pointlessly. Almost none of the characters ageing made it very difficult as well. This final episode did setup a lot of interesting stuff to explore for next season though; Geralt's history, Yennefer maybe being something more? (she can't be dead surely), Ciri's powers coming up as well. I guess we don't really know the proper result of that skirmish either militarily. Also what do Geralt and Ciri do now? Maybe it is there destiny to do something with Yennefer and it is her who is the special one. After all Ciri in theory has the same powers as her mother and great-grandmother at the very least. I think next season is going to have a lot more lore bombing and be action packed hopefully. This was a strong introduction to the show but we need way more episodes!

Okay, so there are just three timelines and they are all linear. Each scene from Geralt's perspective is in order, same with Yennifer's, and same with Ciri's. So really, there are no flashbacks, they just start at different times so they can all end at the same time period. I hope that helps lol Thank you for beasting through all of these. I'm excited for season 2!

I didn't even realise all of Geralt's were in order lol

I found this infographic timeline which was actually really helpful if anyone wants it: https://pbs.twimg.com/media/ENszLlUUUAAewGX?format=jpg&name=4096x4096

the battle that the farm lady kept referring to while speaking with Ciri was the same battle Yen was fighting in!

this seems so accurate and helpful! but the only thing that’s throwing me off is that Yennefer replies to “are you ready to die” with “I’ve lived many lifetimes” so maybe her story begins even more far back? or maybe she just meant it in a metaphorical sense and I’m breaking my brain for nothing 😮‍💨

Tbh I had forgotten how confusing this show was. I think it has so much rewatch-ability because for the first watch you are just kind of baffled with your head cocked sideways the whole time. The whole second watch is basically “oooooohh that’s what that meant” and “oh there is a hint I missed”. That said, it is very intriguing and I agree it picks up and you grow really attached to the characters around episode 4ish. Apologies for the bait and switch when I said it was only 8 episodes lol. It feels like 8 seasons worth of story happens in that time and yet very little actually progresses. The show is so dense! I swear they pepper in sexy shirtless Henry Cavill every once in awhile to help our brains relax. Some sexy Geralt serotonin to keep us feeling safe and intrigued and then back on the ride. Looking forward to being totally baffled together as we watch season 2!

Luckily season 2 won't be doing the multiple timelines. I think its going to center around the three main characters Ciri, Geralt, and Yennifer. The symbols in the opening came together to make Geralt, Yennifer, and Ciri's symbols put together. I'm going to start watching season 2 Thursday at midnight. Thats when it will be on Netflix in California. And I'll rewatch with you when you post you reactions. Been waiting 2 years for season 2.

You have 3 time lines running to a point in present day when they all meet, at any point you see Ciri its present day., Yennefer is the oldest the Geralt then Ciri. There is more to the stories than just Geralt. The battle is happening in present time. Geralt was hallucinating not flash backs. Shouldn't say you're only interested in Geralt and not the rest it gets a little irritating. You didn't seem to appreciate the Mage V Nilfguard battle, which is a shame. I've played the games and yes there is a lot going on which matter as they are 7 books. The first season dropped an episode a week and not all at once.

Nicolás Fernández

Don't worry, you were tricked to think the first 3 episodes were happening in the same timespan. Yennefer's story spans like 90-120 years. Geralt's one happens in about 20 years give or take. And Ciri's in a few days. This episode happens in linear time, you are supposed to believe it's not, until the very end. BTW: Ciri is what the man who Geralt saved at the beginning of this episode "has but don't know about yet", so destiny really want Geralt to be her dad. Also, I think is pretty obvious that Geralt is a child of surprise, since "his mother" turned out to be a (99% probably sterile) sorceress, or perhaps a hallucination

Nicolás Fernández

Where? I'm pretty sure first season dropped all at once in Latin America and the US. I remember binging episode 1 and 2, then I binged the rest on Sunday, after hearing about how you had to get to episode 4 to understand wtf was going on.

Rushara

In the UK, pretty sure had to wait week by week. You only confused if you weren't familiar with the stories / books and games.

Pretty sure it dropped all at once in the UK too. I remember binge watching it. Netflix very rarely does weekly releases- usually they only do that on their own reality TV shows and that's mostly it.

Rushara

May have done feels so long ago. The urge to binge watch then have to wait so long.

Kevin

Please always keep in mind that Yennefer is part Elf, so yes, she is stronger than the other mages.

Kevin

Personally, I find Yennefer's story much more appealing than Geralt's.

Kevin

Geralt is not the "main" guy. This series focuses on 3 protagonists. We get it, he's hot. Anyway.

Anonymous

I mean the show is literally called "The Witcher" 😂, and Geralt features in both Yennefer's and Ciri's story. It might not be as cut and dry as most shows but it feels like all story threads are coalescing around Geralt now.

Ben Bass

kevin, from playing the games, Geralt is my favourite. especially when he is with ciri, im very excited for s2 tomorrow.

Rushara

I find Yennefer more interesting because we can see more range. However, that was also deliberate because Cavill wanted to introduce Geralt as he truly comes across in the game but the next season he will be more like the books, showing his educated side etc, I won't spoiler but I fear there may not as many battles as some want because the second series will be quite different with Ciri and Vesemir . I do love Geralt but the Mages are so exciting that I worry Seb will over look their brilliance.

Rushara

I have to say after playing the game, I expect to see Roach appear on roofs and or disappear like the game.

Roy Koopa

Painful

Roy Koopa

The series is about Geralt. And the show in particular does a pretty poor job of characterising Yennifer and Ciri. Not surprising people wouldn't take to them. What's crazy is that he didn't have like literally any interest in the underlying story, lol.

Yennefer's story doesn't span 120 years. It spans around 57 years. She came to Aretuza in 1206 and the Battle of Sodden Hill was in 1263. The start of Geralts storyline is in 1231 when he killed Renfri in Blaviken. And they don't trick you into believing it all happens at the same time. If you are really taking every detail in you can see it as early as episode one when Renfri says that Calanthe just won her first battle at Chósebuz and then Ciri says at the feast that Calanthe won her first battle at Chósebuz when she was her age. And by episode 4 and the wedding feast it gets pretty obvious that there are different timelines at play.
