The winner of the poll! Like I say in my intro, I do want to get around to all of the shows and I also want to possibly make a new tier for anime in the future because it is something I really want to get into and I know there are so many good shows.

But, Young Royals is really amazing! If you have not seen it before I would definitely recommend it and I hope you are not put off by subtitles as the language is beautiful. We already  are attached to some characters so fast and the overall mood is brilliant.

Let me know what you thought of this show!

Yes love Young Royals so much! It was so intriguing watching a show in Swedish. Truly is a beautiful language

Was a decent first episode. Reminded me of Elite a bit, some similar elements. Netflix's foreign language originals are so often great though. We love a Sub King. Interested to see where they take it. When I was younger and a super picky eater, ketchup was the only thing I had with spaghetti lol.

Jeff Cabrera

This is actually Omar Rudberg’s acting debut (Simon). He’s best known for his music (he was in a Swedish boy band, hence, why he’s good at singing).

I agree with watching the subbed version, but I watched it with the dub when I went through the season a second time and was surprised (and pleased) to see that the lead actors did their own English dubbing which was cool.

Finley

For dubbed vs subbed for this show specifically, the actors are the ones doing the English version. so its very accurate compared to most other dubs. What I do is watch shows twice, first in dubbed and then later, when I know what the shows about and all that, in subbed. I find it really difficult to focus on reading the subs and understanding the plot but I also want to hear the original version and how its meant to sound. I adore this show, its so much more realistic compared to most shows about teenagers, Edvin (Prince Wilhelm) was 16 or 17 when filming and everyone else was either still in there teens to or just out of them, this show didn't try and hide acne or anything like that either. It's so so good and refreshing too.

Jeff Cabrera

I agree, I loved the choice of not hiding acne/blemishes. I didn’t realize how something so simple as that could make you connect to the characters even more (because you see them more as people than model actors)

Alex

Not the soggy biscuit! lol. omg imagine if you were a prince. Breaking news, Prince Seb wears Chris Evans in Not Another Teen Movie cosplay

Alex

omg! Elite! I hope he reacts to that one next!!

Lee David Russell

Second time watching this show and I just love it. Not as fluffy as Love Victor, a bit more realistic, but still has that heart-warming, chill vibe to it. It's not overdramatic like most young adult shows and it has realistic teenagers lol. Love Willhelm and Simon as well, and actually rewatching now, I sort of have a different perspective on August's character development (though I won't spoil it). Looking forward to the rest 💙

June

Ohhh watching this for the first time with you and I actually am loving this show!

I didn't expect to hear Spanish in this. Interesting too see the mother speaking Spanish and the kids reply in Swedish. Is this normal in multi-lingual families? I guess it makes sense with the kids probably being better at Swedish than Spanish and vice-versa for the mother.

Jeff Cabrera

Omar Rudberg (Simon) is both Venezuelan and Swedish, and is multilingual. I’m sure they probably incorporated that aspect into the script when he was cast, but I’ve discovered that a lot of European countries encourage you to be multilingual. That’s why Felice’s roommate was able to talk to her interchangeably in English and have Felice understand it (the actors that play Simon and Wilhelm also speak English IRL as well).

Alex

Yeah, it's definitely normal, at leas tin my family, I speak to my mom in English all the time even though she mostly speaks to me in Spanish lol

Davide

In general, people from Nordic countries speak very good English. As for the Spanish and Swedish, the existence of multilingual people obviously doesn't surprise me. But I didn't expect a conversation with one person speaking one language and another person speaking a different one. But then I also realised (and I'm now talking about the characters, not actors) the mother probably learned Swedish as an adult and the kids probably grew up in Sweden. So she'd naturally be more fluent in Spanish and them in Swedish.

Jeff Cabrera

Oh yeah, that would make sense for children to use the language that their parent is more comfortable with.

Davide

Actually, it sounded like only the mother was speaking Spanish and the kids were replying in Swedish. Which would mean each of them speaking in the language they're best at, and listening to a language is easier than speaking it. That being said, I can't guaranteed they never spoke the other language in the entire conversation, since I don't understand Swedish and I don't fully understand Spanish. I'm Portuguese, so there are a lot of similarities, but I don't understand everything.

June

I really like how they include multilingual characters because that is actually quite realistic. I grew up in a country where there are a few different dialects that people from different regions speak and they sound like different languages with completely different vocabulary, like my grandmother speaks to me in her northeastern dialect which I fully understand but can't speak and I speak to her in my dialect and she still understands.

the acting in this series is amazing, you can just tell what a character is thinking from a look or a touch.

I get what you are saying about Dub Vs Subs but if you ever do a non-english show or movie for the YouTube crowd can you at least use the dub version for the clips. It drives me mental trying to read itty bitty subs in the little boxes on reactors videos.

Samuel

I think the thing you said about different languages somehow sounding more important is probably because when you don't speak the language, you try and listen for everything and get all the subtitles, so you automatically pay more attention :)

Out of interest what is your opinion on Seb's Squid Game reactions on Youtube? as they had subtitles. Personally I feel like messing with sub reactions and dub clips would end up becoming a nightmare and would not be worth it. Seb has the original size subtitles on his videos, so for most people that watched the sub version of a show/film, there shouldn't be an issue hopefully.

Jed Knight

Yeah, that's true, Seb had it nice and big, I had forgotten about his Squid Game reaction.
