The Dragon Ball Super Manga and the Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot game expand more on how Trunks defeated Dabura and Babidi. Basically, Shin and Kibito came to Earth to warn Trunks about Majin Buu. They bring him to the Supreme Kai's planet to help him train and pull out the Z-Sword, which he does. When they return to Earth, they struggle against Dabura, the Z-Sword is turned to stone, Kibito is killed by Dabura and Shin is hit by a blast from Dabura, gravelly injuring him. This swells up into Trunks unlocking Super Saiyan 2, and he then kills Dabura and Babidi. Unfortunately, Shin lost his life, which is what Trunks was referring to when he said "And there were losses".
