My JBL Control 1 Plus speakers are about 30 years old and have an  intermittent fault. In the process of fixing them, though, I found  incandescent light bulbs attached to their crossovers...and the reason  why is very clever.

Fixing My Vintage Speakers -- But Why Are There Light Bulbs Inside?

I enjoyed this one, no matter how casual it is. I remember my first regular exposure to the JBL Control line was at my regional Six Flags (Great Adventure). At some point when background audio in queues started to become a thing, they had JBLs all over and I remember seeing the Control 1's all over and some bigger ones where they were appropriate. I also remember many years later, so much more recently, I noticed that many of the 1s in the Batman queue had been re-coned - which was obvious by their dirty enclosure but bright and shiny drivers. I have a small speaker obsession and wish I had the means to have a collection, but alas I'll just continue looking for them in commercial and theme park settings. :-)

Yep, it was Camp Snoopy (now Nickelodeon Universe) at the Mall of America where I learned about the Control line. They had Control 5's and 10s throughout the park, and a lot of the stores in the mall used Control 1's. This was in the early to mid 90s, at the peak of their popularity. I don't really want a collection of speakers per se, but there are a few models that I've always wanted, and I've been lucky enough to have a couple cross my path.
