Content

I didn't want to do this.

In one of my earliest podcast episodes, I discussed what I had learned about creating YouTube content up to that point. I explained how there's simultaneously this huge sense of community, from interaction with viewers, but also this sense of isolation as content creators do their own thing independently and don't often really form friendships.

I need your input, because, well, there aren't any other creators I know well enough to ask their advice. I'm trying to take the so-called "moral high road" and not air dirty laundry in public.

The video I did on the Game Boy Color BennVenn 101 mod back in August was popular, but also drew the ire of some. In general the complaint was that I didn't "complete" the mod because I didn't get the shell to close, despite that I explained doing so required a significant amount of time and/or specialty tools. Things quieted down, but for some reason are now getting stirred up again and some very unfortunate things are being said. I've not responded publicly to this point, but I know my reputation is taking a bit of a beating, at least over on Reddit. (I'm not sure how much that matters in the big picture.)

That video was created with one thing in mind: Being honest and truthful to my audience. It would have been irresponsible on my part to make the installation of that mod look easier than it actually was -- especially given that a large portion of my audience doesn't have much skill in modding. I paid for the parts with my own money, and stated as such. I stand by my opinion, which sums up as thus (and stated in so many words in the video): It's a fantastic mod which offers the best picture quality we will likely ever get out of a Game Boy Color, but it requires a serious investment in time, skill, and money.

Let me know what you think.

Honestly, in the age of the professional outrage machine, I woulden't give it much of a second thought- some people can be hypersensitive about issues if it doesn't fit 100% with the way they see the world. It's unfortunate, really. But alas, your content is great, even if I don't get to watch the podcasts much these days due to work.
