Streaming music services offer a solid value for listeners. But will the music industry's desire for profits be its undoing?

Streaming services haven’t worked out particularly well for me-my musical taste includes a large number of licensed property songs, foreign artists, obscure remixes, etc.. These are heavily underrepresented on the more standard services, so my YouTube Red subscription has really come in handy. More thoughts later.

I only use streaming services to test drive songs and albums I eventually buy.

Also, I feel like streaming services have a somewhat “empty” UI. Perhaps things have changed, but as someone with a deep appreciation for music, I want to hear what others think of a song, and share my own thoughts. Last time I looked, these were pretty much absent (even YouTube’s music app drastically scales back the interactivity). The music is just “there” in something of a vacuum. As for actually buying music, I still do a fair bit of that, primarily for programming a radio show I do here in Madison.
