I missed your Dune reaction, just found it now! To be honest, I expected more out of the movie. If you know and love the book, it's a fun watch - all the little Easter eggs, special locations or events that you only read about. But if you don't know this Universe, I think the movie would be long and boring. Despite tiny budget and mostly unknown actors, I think SyFy's "Dune" as 3 episode series is better done.

Disagree on almost every point lol. Both actors did amazing and they are getting praised for there performances as they should be. This movie is not for everyone but the ratings say most people loved it. As a book reader they did an amazing job.

me too. I' started reading the first book recently and I'm overwhelmed of how complex it is. 😵 Also: I love Timothee Chalamet because he's the main actor of one of my top 5 movies of all time, and my favorite movie of the entire last decade. Which is Call me by your name. He's wonderful in it. 😍 But...I had a feeling this wouldn't be the best choice, so I didn't vote for it 😏

I found this film really boring when I watched it haha. Weird since I tend to enjoy slow films that other people find boring. I guess it just wasn't for me. But I'll check out the reaction and see if that makes me enjoy the film more.

Drew

I love this movie.

me too 😍 I love every movie Villeneuve has directed, although Blade Runner 2049 is still my favorite 💖💖

Loved this movie, and never read the books.

Ashley

i hated it. They failed to introduce the world for me. It felt like I missed movie #1 — editing cuts were awful.

Pulp

As much as i love villeneuve this movie stunk, the characters and story felt weak as hell, audio and visuals are the only redeeming quality.

Light Yagami

the most shocking part of this reaction is to hear that you don’t like lord of the rings, WHAT? I can understand not loving this movie though, it’s not for everyone but I personally thought it was fantastic

👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼amen, . Ffwrd just get review cause couldn’t bring myself to waste hours of my life AGAIN. Only interesting and or spark I found was Khal Drogo in the first act joking with Twilight looking kid. (I know he wasn’t in it, just looks like a Cullen). And the Fight scene at the end. That’s it. World building: they didnt sell me. Felt like i missed film one. Witcher suffered similar problems. Editing: hard cuts without transition or tethering in a sequence. Bland over-saturated corpse of a presence. Biggest disappointment: Zendaya’s shots didn’t end up being perfume ads. —- but jimmy true, people like to watch reactions to stuff they love, but in this case I watched several just to find solidarity in Dune was all Hype no substance. The End. 🤷🏼‍♀️🤨

This movie fell a bit flat for me. Loved the visuals, but the story seemed a bit underwhelming. Was really hoping to like it. I'll still watch the sequels, but won't be as excited as I was to start this.

Ashley

ps. I THOUGHT I WAS THE ONLY PERSON IN THE WORLD that DIDN’T worship LoTR 🥳🥳🤗 after getting so much flack for years, that was fantastic to hear

I thought it was good, definitely not great. Weakest part was the pacing for me. It might of worked better as a series, but from what I've heard with the books, its mostly told from Paul's point of view, which would make it a lot harder to do. Visually its beautifully shot, and the soundtrack is nearly perfect. The nearly being thanks to shouting voices. It worked better with the main theme that's played during moments with Paul (Hand in box, killing Jamis), but it was otherwise wildly unnecessary and took away from an otherwise 10/10 score. In terms of story, I definitely agree with you Jimmy in that there's not much for what is 2 hours and 30 minutes. There's little actual payoff in the film, with the climax being a "protagonist gets his first kill". And as generic as that is in concept, I do appreciate the idea that Jamis death came at the hands of what could've been his friend, and that his own future teachings to Paul is probably what got Paul to finally stop messing around and just finish him off. If that were visualised a bit better. In reviewing shows or movies, judging each episode or film on its own merit is always best, but I feel there's special pleading with Dune in that its been made very clear that those visions are of great importance, and have some level of accuracy in showing the future. If the second film is a banger, then it retroactively improves this one. For now its a 6/10 film and depending on the sequel, it can go as low as 4/10 and as high as 8/10. Hopefully its the latter, so I can watch the alley-oop in full motion.
