We reach Episode 3, Men of Honor. Spartacus & the rebels have taken Sinuessa en Valle and now seek to provision themselves for the winter. Many problems present themselves, lack of food thanks to the Aedile's tainting of the grain stores, the looming threat of Crassus' army and what to do with their Roman prisoners. We continue to see the excesses of the rebellion as the rebels have no problem abusing the romans and treating them with suspicion and disdain. It's not unwarranted as the Romans have always treated slaves the same or worse, but it's a tad excessive especially with Nemetes extorting the baker Ulpianus for coin in exchange for food.

This leads to Crixus making him and another roman fight for the bread, a la Gladiatorial combat. It's uncomfortable to watch but Ulpianus kills his opponent to jeers and laughs from the amused crowd. This leads to a confrontation between Naevia & Attius, as Naevia mutilates the baker's hand because she saw him going for a sword when Crixus' back was turned. Attius doesn't care for the brutal behavior of the supposed liberators against innocent people. This doesn't do him any favors as he is already treated with suspicion and distrust by everyone except Spartacus & Gannicus. He has been nothing but helpful, making weapons, assisting in the taking of the city yet he stands Roman, forever casting doubt upon intention.

This is a theme hit upon throughout the episode with Gannicus, Spartacus & Naevia having different viewpoints. Gannicus encourages his old friend to leave the city and forge a new purpose for himself, as he himself has done. Spartacus and Laeta reach a understanding as he takes no pleasure in the pain he has caused her but it's a grim necessity as he tells her to find the Aedile's seal in exchange for food and eventual freedom from them. Finally Naevia sees all Romans as enemies, regardless if they seem harmless or not. Her abuse and suffering at the hands of Romans, even a seemingly kind one has hardened her resolve to never have their hands upon her again. When Ulpianus and a few others disappear from sight, she confronts Attius believing him to be the treacherous roman she suspected all along.

He doesn't know what she speaks of, but it matters little as she attacks him. It's a bad move as she lets her rage and fear cloud her judgement but Attius seals his fate when he returns the favor, not willing to stomach her disdain anymore. The fight is ugly and messy with Naevia gaining the upper hand and smashing Attius' head in with an anvil. His death isn't the only in the episode as Tiberius makes plans to achieve glory by engaging the rebels in battle. The young roman is already displeased by Caesar's insubordination in killing a survivor from Sinuessa and by his unsubtle dig at the faults of lesser men. Tiberius sends him from camp to inform Crassus of Spartacus' conquest of Sinuessa letting him know that they aren't equals, he leads, Caesar follows.

Tiberius' plan to attack the rebels during their early morning trade with the Cillician Pirates goes as well as you think it would. He rushes in against his father's direct orders to only observe leading to a bloody skirmish that only turns to his favor with the arrival of Mummius and the remnants of Cossinius' legion. The Romans outnumber them but this rash decision costs them dearly as the attack unites the rebels & pirates against their mutual foe. Leading the ships to fire flaming ballista's at them, wiping out the remains of the legion and roasting Mummius as well. Tiberius also comes close to biting it as he stabbed by a spear during the fight. He manages to kill Totus before he retreats soundly beaten and losing his shiny new sword in the process.

Also there's tensions rising within the rebels as Nemetes is displeased at having to give all his spoils to aid in making trade with the Cilicians. All in all, a pretty solid episode with action, scheming and character development. Thanks for the reaction Jimmy, looking forward to the next one, take care and peace.

Naevia this episode is definitely annoying.

Jimmy I agree with you wholeheartedly about Navia and even if the Roman would've tried to leave after knocking her down she wouldn't have let it end that way. She's been against him from the start! And as much as I blame Navia for her attitudes and actions I have to lay some of the blame on Crixus. Homie got put his girl in check cuz she is straight bugging out!!
