Crassus is definitely a scene stealer in this episode. A realistic enemy and one that isn't underestimating Spartacus like the past villains. Also the conflicts within the rebel army were real and didn't feel artificial. They do have a lot of people so they need food and clothing, but Spartacus is such a legend that the normal slave isn't going to know what he looks like so that was cool to see that.

Crassus is great. And if you didn't catch it, he's the man that has been mentioned since season 1. He's the cousin of Licinia, the girl Illythia murdered by bashing her head into the floor. Spartacus finally feeling like a proper leader, and looking the part too. Crixus finally embraced his inner beast, the beard is a good touch.

crassus is amazing this season is probably my favorite

We started this journey by seeing Spartacus tread through Blood & Sand, his rise from slave to Gladiator, Champion & Liberator. Then we explored the origins of the Gods of the Arena. Crixus, Oenomaus, Batiatus & the introduction of Gannicus. Then we return to Spartacus' quest for Vengeance as he becomes the legend we all know, defeating Glaber and his army at Vesuvius.

Finally we see the War of the Damned, the band of gladiators, house slaves, runaways & prisoners now forged into a great army, equipped with steel and strategy with Spartacus leading them to victory after victory. We see Spartacus riding into battle against Cossinius & Furius, every bit the man the Romans now fear and who inspires awe in every slave free or not. He deals his latest opponents a defeat only for them to slip away, but he gains a Standard for his victory to go along with the six others he has won.

The two commanders lick their wounds in secret with them complaining to the Senate's emissary Metellus that they need more men as Spartacus is delivering them L after L. Yet there is no coin to acquire more men as all other Roman generals of note are busy battling Rome's foes abroad. So Metellus offers the only recourse to their problem, seek aid from the richest man in Rome, you know him of course, Marcus Crassus.

We finally see Crassus after two seasons & a mini of people name dropping him as the man who shits gold, wealth to rival Midas, a senator of Rome and the envy of the Patricians. We see MC, sparring with former champion gladiator Hilarus as he seeks to be as skilled as the warriors who oppose rome. Metellus comes to seek his aid to gather 10,000 men in return for a command under Cossinius & Furius.

Crassus accepts the terms much to the dismay of his obnoxious son Tiberius, who balks at his father's wasting time sparring with common slaves & accepting command from lesser men. The snot nosed kid though gets a lesson in humility when he fights Hilarus and gets his ass knocked into the sand. Crassus is a cunning, shrewd operator not only does he send message to the two commanders which just so happens to be intercepted by Spartacus, he also forces Hilarus to show him his full skills in combat.

The result Spartacus, Crixus & Gannicus sneak into the Villa where Cossinius & Furius are staying after diverting their soldiers' attention to the north. Leading them to strike at these two unaware and defeat them. Spartacus though does not take prisoners and delivers a double decapitation to them, putting their heads for all their men to see.

Also Crassus utilizes his rope a dope move stopping the sword with his bare hands and thrusting it back into Hilarus' stomach. Using his patience and determination to best the superior fighter. Crassus also is a man of his word, he will use the coin he would given Hilarus for his freedom had he won to honour his sacrifice. He also becomes the only man standing to face Spartacus, having used the Bringer of Rain to eliminate his rivals and become Imperator.

Crassus is only interested in title and victory earned and now he can do just that. He is a very different villain from Batiatus & Glaber, the upjumped Lanista constantly scheming to rise above his station, killing all who stand in his way. Glaber, a man who's ambition outweighs his talent who has a constant chip on his shoulder because of the dishonour Spartacus' stained him with. Crassus however does not fall prey to these men's weaknesses. He has ambition like Glaber and ruthless determination like Batiatus but doesn't underestimate his foes or have an inflated idea of self worth. He talks the talk and walks the walk, and demands the same of everyone, even his son.

It's going to be great seeing you react to them facing off with each other Jimmy. The premiere, Enemies of Rome does a great job at reintroducing you the show, Liam has buffed up and looks far more menacing then he did last season. Everyone does, no longer fugitives but rebel insurgents covered in blood & sand. We also see that the rebellion is not all fine & dandy as former slave Diotimos is butchering horses on the sly to feed the starving rebels. Spartacus is no longer just a runaway slave or petty agitator but is now the number one enemy of Rome, thus his legend has grown large and many amongst his own believe him far removed from the common man, sitting pretty on his hill.

Though Spartacus proves that power has not gone to his head with assurance that no one who follows him will ever have their voice silenced. Spartacus also concocts his grandest plan, to take a city from Rome to house their large army. This episode is one of my favourites and I'm glad it's yours too Jimmy, Simon Merells does an excellent performance as Crassus and trust me this is only the tip of the spear of what he is capable of. Thanks for the reaction and catch you later, peace.
