yeah I'd say back then... Gannicus was better than Crixus, of course. Because Crixus was only starting out. But that was many years ago. Since then Gannicus won his freedom and was never forced to fight in the arena again. Crixus got better and better and became the new champion of Capua. So at this point you really can't say which one of them is better 🙂

Mira is my girl ❤ she's amazing 😍

I still say Spartacus would have been the victor in that duel if only because he has proper motive whereas Gannicus fights for nothin. And Glabur is learning the game it seems. A nice twist there. Also, for me I must be honest, Liam Mcyntire, while by the end of this season is nearly 'Spartacus' and is doing an otherwise fine job, he doesn't quite land the role fully until season 3 where I think he shines.

Cadmus Lochlan

I wish they did a Hannibal show. One of the legendary names to actually threaten Rome. For now I have to settle for the manga.

Chosen Path is another solid episode of Vengeance, the second part of the Fall of the Arena arc. Spartacus and his team return triumphant having brought down the Arena, proving his words that the Republic bleeds when struck. Crixus and Naevia are finally reunited, even though she has some wicked survivor's guilt about the cost to rescue her and then Crixus as a result of their mission in the mines.

Oenomaus still clinging to life is treated by Lucius, with Gannicus imploring him to heal this God of the Arena. Spartacus and Mira are in high but cautious spirits as they dealt the Romans a severe wound but no doubt retribution is coming. Mira is unsure about Gannicus' presence in the temple as he was a hired executioner during the games. Spartacus is confident he can recruit Gannicus as he did Nasir, however this proves more difficult than expected.

Anonymous

Gannicus is a shadow of a fun loving, womanizing braggart of old, Melitta's death, his betrayal of Oenomaus and winning his freedom has changed him. Now a haunted, morose figure with only desires for wine, women and the payment of debts long overdue. He has no desire to join Spartacus' rebellion and only helped him to save Oenomaus' life. Mira doesn't trust him but Spartacus hopes still to bring the Celt into the fold.

Meanwhile back in Capua, the mood is very different. Grief and fear hang heavy throughout the city as hundreds of bodies are recovered from the ashes of the Arena, Spartacus' attack on such a beloved institution in the wake of his other acts have shaken Rome. None more shaken than Ilithyia now a bystander as Glaber seeks control of her late father's estate, browbeating the lawyer to sell Albinius' assets and use the proceedings to raise the bounty on Spartacus.

Anonymous

Glaber tells his wife about her new reality, her tears over her father don't move him as he discovered her plans to end their marriage and rob him of his heir and legacy. He spared her life only because she carries his child, and tells her that her purpose now is to see it to term or you're life is forfeit.

Anonymous

She begs for forgiveness and for him to show sympathy for her mourning period. Glaber tells her to bathe and present herself absent stench of grief, he needs her by his side when during his meeting with the Magistrate. She doesn't get his sympy, not his sympy at all.

Anonymous

Lucretia doesn't fare much better as she confronts Ashur, after he implores Glaber not to underestimate Spartacus like Marcus did. Not common slaves but gladiators more deadly than rank & file soldiers. Glaber's centurion Salvius scoffs at this and Glaber decides to test whether Ashur's words have worth and has him face a squad of his men.

Anonymous

He gets roughed up and cut, but Ashur was once part of the Brotherhood and like Spartacus schools Glaber's men, whooping ass and beating Salvius bloody. He got knocked out by Spartacus last episode, poor bastard. Ashur proves that even the lowest of Batiatus' stable of gladiators is superior to his weak ass soldiers. Glaber laments that there's only one of him leading Ashur to suggest the recruiting of like minded warriors, which Glaber agrees.

Anonymous

She sees him clean shaven and fresh with new digs as he has secured position now. She rebukes him for disobeying her orders to swap the sylphium and instead snitch to Glaber about Ilithyia's plan. He saw and opportunity and he took it, she warns him that he forgets his place, but like Batiatus he tells her no, he secures it.

Anonymous

She strikes him and lets him know that he does nothing without her say so. She attempts to put him under heel but Ashur has had fill of feet upon his neck and slams her up against the wall, and tells her you're no longer in charge, I am. I saved your life, responsible for your "prophecies" bearing fruit and helped deliver Oenomaus & Crixus to Glaber. If he she doesn't start showing him respect he tell Glaber that she was complicit in the plan to kill his child.

Anonymous

He then goes one step further and forces himself on her to demonstrate their new power dynamic. Just when you though Ashur was just slimy enough to love to hate, he goes and proves why no one should ever trust him or like him, a serpent who will bite you when you no longer serve his interests. The meeting with the Magistrate is full of contention as Glaber & Seppius argue over who should bring Spartacus to justice.

Anonymous

They both have been unsuccessful and Glaber revisits the notion that they put aside their differences and join together. Seppius says he would need to consult Varinius, only for Glaber to rebuke him for still being subordinate to that smug bastard who has fled back to Rome, and tells him to take his hand in friendship and support.

Anonymous

Seppius knows this is the right play but can't resist letting Glaber squirm and tells him he needs to think it over and he will give his answer tomorrow. Lucretia tells him that they would have Seppia stay with them to help comfort her grief over the horrors witnessed. He agrees, Lucretia continues to prove herself invaluable as once again Ilithyia finds herself bereft of joy, condemned to a loveless marriage where she will die if she doesn't do what her husband says.

Anonymous

However Glaber favours a more direct approach as he slaughters Seppius' entire household, slaves and guards alike with Ashur & his squad of murderous cunts. Tattoo guy who curb stomped that brute at the brothel, Redface, Capman & Baldy. They all however pale in comparison to The Egyptian, a tall imposing terminator like man who cuts down men with ease with his daggers.

Anonymous

Glaber is impressed at Ashur's death squad and tells him to see to the bodies as he goes to have a final chat with Seppius. Bleeding and crawling on the ground, Glaber tells him that he won't need his support, as the time for words is over. He is done kowtowing to patrician fools who mock and disrespect, he will take Seppius' men, the glory of defeating Spartacus and of course, his dear sister.

Anonymous

Glaber told him that he would have helped him absent attempt to fuck his sister. Not anymore as he crushes Seppius' throat underfoot, having eliminated his rivals with Ashur robbing his fancy bracelet. Back at the temple Spartacus, Agron, Mira & Lucius discuss how to defend their new stronghold.

Anonymous

The paths upward to Vesuvius would provide vantage against approaching Romans. They are low on fighting men and weapons, so Spartacus suggests Lucius teach those absent skill with sword with the bow. He also takes Agron up on his offer to liberate a slave ship in Neapolis and would have him make journey to gauge success.

Anonymous

Gannicus emerges and they hid their map in haste, but he has no interest in Spartacus' plans and only seeks wine. Spartacus has none to give, only deepening Gannicus' opinion that this place sucks. Gannicus stands vigil over Oenomaus seeking to atone for his past mistakes. Chadara comes upon and asks him did Rhaskos die well.

Anonymous

He confirms this and she tells him that Rhaskos gave her position and protection in exchange for sex. She would make the same deal with Gannicus, but he rejects her advances leading her to share comfort with Donar instead. During Lucius' archery lessons, Mira proves dab hand with the bow while Chadara seeks to be Donar's girl.

Anonymous

However he ain't no Gaul and is content to hit it and quit it. Mira questions why she continues to pimp herself from one Gladiator to another. Mira tells her to take control of her future rather than just being a groupie. This has unfortunate consequences as the Rebels map goes missing leading Spartacus and the others' to believe someone sold them out for the bounty.

Anonymous

Gannicus and Spartacus have a number of exchanges throughout the episode with him trying to sway the fellow champion to his cause. First through rousing speech to unite the rebels only for this to fall flat as Agron & Crixus attempt to break common ground only for them still hold each other in contempt.

Anonymous

While hunting for game, Spartacus appeals to Gannicus' honour and heart as he tells him he fights to free all slaves so they do not suffer the fate of his wife, killed by Batiatus and enslaved by Glaber. Gannicus' is surprised by Spartacus' reason to wage war against the Republic, but he is sympathetic to the reason having known lost love like Spartacus.

Anonymous

He brings back a wild boar for everyone to share while Crixus and Naevia struggle to find their way back to each other. Her PTSD and trauma over being condemned to sexual slavery and hard labour makes her unable to be with Crixus , her sorrow and self loathing nearly drive her to take her own life. Crixus won't stand idly by though and lose the woman he risked everything for. So she tells him she wants him to teach her to fight so she will never be helpless again, to reclaim the name she lost along with her casting.

Anonymous

Gannicus and Oenomaus finally have words with Gannicus remorseful over his betrayal of Oenomaus and his role in Melitta's death. He tells him that Melitta chose him, she was not to blame in any of their misdeeds, he only bears that guilt. Oenomaus accepts this, but rejects Gannicus' apologies as he sees the man he once held close as a selfish, adulterous snake who has no loyalty or honour.

Anonymous

Taking words to heart, Gannicus moves to depart but is stopped by Spartacus and the others who suspect him of being the thief. Gannicus tells them he's not, he wants nothing to do with them and to get out of his way. Spartacus stands his ground and Gannicus reaffirms his belief that Spartacus is a reckless fool who will lead them all to death.

Anonymous

The two former champions then go head to head in a sweet fight, Dimachaerus style. They fight to a stand still as Mira spies Chadara making a run for it and shoots an arrow at her. She only meant to wound her but she pierces her throat and she dies with the map revealed in her possession. A unfortunate end for the woman who only sought to find her place in this world.

Anonymous

Gannicus is vindicated and leaves though he implores Crixus and Naevia to leave as well, less Spartacus drag them into his suicidal war. They resolve to stay and he tells them he will mourn for them as he leaves the rebels toward uncertain future. Agron is unsure they should of have let him go, but Spartacus says everyone is free to choose their fate as they march toward theirs.

Apologies for the mountain of text, I just love this series and can write about it for hours. I'm glad you're finding it just as compelling as when I first saw it. Thanks Jimmy for these and have a great day mate, peace.
