Awesome episode 😍😍😎😎

David

One of my favorites right here. The destruction of the arena makes me so happy. I don't even care about those people, they deserved it, being among the bloodthirsty crowd vying for the death of those enslaved. Their deaths are a big win for all in chains. Spartacus is fulfilling his promise, to make Rome tremble.

Cadmus Lochlan

Can't be mad at him for taking the opportunity. That was a solid episode.

Just finished watching your reactions to 2x05 & 2x06, Libertus and Chosen Path. The Fall of the Capua Arena and the aftermath that follows. They are very compelling episodes full of character development, shocking twists, great action and scheming galore.

The conspiracy between IIithyia, Lucretia, her dad and Varinius is in full swing, Albinius will dissolve her marriage with Glaber in favour of Varinius and she will terminate her pregnancy. Of course this puts a wrench in Lucretia's plans for Ilithyia and her child, it must be born and she must remain at her dear friend's side.

Anonymous

She convinces Ilithyia to forego taking Sylphium to end the pregnancy as she would be sick for many days and miss the end of Varinius' games. She can't give any reason for things to be amiss less Glaber discover true intent. Speaking of the Praetor, he mourns his fallen friend Marcus and is suspicious how he died yet Ashur survived their fight with Spartacus.

Anonymous

Ashur unconvincingly tells him that he tried to save his life after he was wounded by Spartacus. It's not technically wrong, but he leaves out the part where he kills him to save his own life. Glaber's not having it and condemns Ashur to death in the Arena. Luckily Lucretia still has use of the Syrian and frees him to replace the Sylphium with water & herb so that Ilithyia will take it as a sign from the gods that the child must be born.

Unfortunately like Ilithyia, Lucretia underestimates what men like Ashur and Glaber are capable of. Ashur tells him of the plan to kill his unborn child and he confronts his wife in a domestic fight as bitter as the one in The Sopranos. She tells him he is not worthy of an heir, a disappointment as a husband and a man who only got to marry her because she plead with her Father with teary eye. No more tears for Glaber as she unloads all her resentment on him. That will teach you for abandoning me here, then dragging me back to the place of my trauma and treating me like a object rather than a person.

The games commence with everyone in high spirits except Glaber who sits in the Pulvinus getting ragged on and drinking his anger away. Meanwhile Crixus, Oenomaus and Rhaskos are sent to their execution with blunt swords but determined to go out like Gladiators. Their final battle goes up a notch as their executioners are led by none other than their old friend, former champion of Capua and Freedman, Gannicus.

Anonymous

Oenomaus wastes no time in demanding to know if what Ashur told him was true, did Gannicus sleep with Melitta the night she died. His silence betrays the truth and he crosses swords with his former brother. How will they get out of this? Spartacus has the answer by leading a rescue mission of them on the Arena.

The Rebels find refuge at a abandoned temple or is it? It's not as Spartacus and Agron encounter bow wielding hermit Lucius Caelius. Despite their hostile meeting, he warms to his new guests when he learns that Spartacus leads, sharing his desire to see his fellow Romans suffer as he has losing his entire family to the excesses of Sulla's dictatorship.

Anonymous

He tells them of the scheduled execution of their fellow brothers in one day hence, one of them being Crixus. So Spartacus recruits a squad of his fellow rebels to infiltrate the Arena and rescue them from certain death. They sneak in via the cisterns beneath the Arena where dead gladiators are disposed of. Emerging from the blood and gore filled waters they kill the guards and Spartacus and Agron take their uniforms to get to the sands.

Anonymous

Spartacus spies the brand of Batiatus on Gannicus' arm and questions why he would fight his fellow gladiators. Gannicus yet holds them to heart and would give them an honourable death. The fight rages with Oenomaus & Gannicus' grudge match nearly leading to the former Doctore's death and the death of Rhaskos, that shit smelling Gaul we all loved the past two seasons.

Anonymous

Meanwhile below, Mira, Donar and the others carry out phase two of the mission, dousing the support beams of the arena with pitch and setting it and some unlucky romans aflame. When the flames prove too slow, they go to pull the whole place down via chains and good old elbow grease.

Anonymous

It works and we see one of the best set pieces in the series, The Arena collapsing section by section into the fiery abyss. A shit ton of romans get killed here with us losing some recurring characters too. Poor Mercato, the ever helpful Aedile crushed under a pillar, to everyone's shock. As well as the comeuppance for old Rapeface, that motherfucker Cossutius who gets penetrated by a spear courtesy of Spartacus.

Anonymous

Finally the most shocking death as Albinius loses his shit with Glaber, telling him that he has failed Rome for the last time, his career in the Senate is over! Glaber follows after him only to see his Father in law trapped beneath a beam, pleading for help. Glaber goes to save him then everything changes, he goes from smug, bitter asshole to ruthless murderer as he tells Albinius that he's not the fool he and Ilithyia think he is. He then brings the beam down, splattering the senator. He emerges from the Arena to find Ilithyia and give her the tragic news that her beloved father is dead at hands of Spartacus.

Anonymous

Her plans for returning to Rome with new husband burn with the Arena as Glaber tells her menacingly that they will get through this as Husband & Wife, till death do us part. Varinius cuts his losses and leaves her to Glaber's mercies with Lucretia looking on at this terrible turn of fate.

Anonymous

Spartacus and his squad slay the gladiators and roman soldiers upon the sands rescuing Crixus and Oenomaus, the latter badly injured from falling wreckage. Gannicus choosing to help his fallen brother out as they all escape the place of their past glories, leaving only ash and ruin in their wake.

This episode also begins the love story of Agron & Nasir, the Little man having stolen the heart of that angry German. Thanks for these two reactions Jimmy, it's well received. Looking forward to see how you react to the second half of Vengeance, catch you later.
