Never heard of this film. Going in blind... Let's experience it together haha

Amazing movie and really really underrated. I can see it become a cult classic in many years though. Logan Marshall Green who used to be called Discount Tom Hardy was really good. Funny comparison because this movie is the better 'Venom' - which came out around the same time and also with Tom Hardy 😂😂

Robert Kruger

Maybe you could have dummy do his own react and share it here too?

Actually the character is not really a mess at the beginning. 😁 He's just not into all of this advanced technology and he likes to repair things with his own hands. It's just a very big contrast to the rest of the characters and especially his wife. For him to be dependent on it later on and used by it eventually is just the most tragic thing 😔😔 he just didn't stand a chance. Which is why this is the most sad ending. In the end the main character couldn't accomplish anything. He couldn't avenge his wife, in fact he has been used by the killer of his wife to do his bidding. And then his mind was broken and he gets trapped inside a virtual reality. While his body can now be used without him doing anything about it. STEM is truly a genius. Also he got rid of all the evidence, everyone who knew about it is dead and the rival company will also soon be gone. Of course STEM lied about not knowing the detective planted the recorder on Grey. He just wanted the cop to follow him so STEM could tie up the loose ends. It's interesting that the machine wins in the end by becoming a man.

Interesting tidbit since you briefly mentioned the budget. Movie was made for only ~$5 million which is absolutely crazy for how good it looks. Leigh Whannell who wrote and directed this also did the Invisible Man for around $7 million. Dude comes from a horror writing background (Saw, Insidious), and making movies on the cheap but finding ways to make them look really damn good. I haven't seen Insidious 3 which was his directorial debut but between Upgrade and Invisible Man he has knocked it out of the park. Both look fantastic, have some really clever camera work, and didn't cost much at all. Hope to see that trend continue with these smaller creative projects (one film I'd recommend to folks would be Thoroughbreds directed by Cory Finley. Way less action but a great indie flick similar to Brick by Rian Johnson) . Don't need $50-100 million for stuff like this. Cheers!
